RE: Is too much possible?
It seems as though it is unanimous. Thanks for your input. Next year I will just try to remian as scent free as possible rather than covering my human odor. I really appreciate the responses.

RE: Is too much possible?
You can overdo the cover scent thing. A friend of mine was gung-ho with the red fox urine--to the point that I hated to ride in the car with him after a hunt! <img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle> Now, I'm like the otheres here--as scent-free as possible. IMO--using cover scents can be compared to smelling a cigarette imbedded in a pizza--you can semm both! Having cover scents on won't completely hide your scent.

RE: Is too much possible?
I have always wondered about the earth scents. Smell receptors become desensitized to constant odors. Have you ever walked into some ones house and sensed a distinct smell, yet the owners smell nothing. It is because they no longer register that odor.
If earth scents in fact replicate the natural odor of the woods I would think they are un-perceivable to the deer. If this isn’t true, deer would be constantly bombarded with natural earth cover scent, that would impair there every day ability to detect foreign odors. I have the same doubts about pine and oak scents. All in all I agree with most that keep clean and no cover scent is best. When I do use a cover I like fox urine. |
RE: Is too much possible?
In your area...could incresing hunting presure be flawing your stats?????
I try to be as sent free as posible. EVERY TIME befoer I go to my bow blind, I take a shower with No-sent soap, use no-sent deodarant, *drive to my spot* get out. Change into my rubber boots, find a puddle or two to spash around in...if possibel...Then about 300yards from my stand, I slip on my Sent-Lok suit (AMAZING!!!!) and spray down heavely with No-sent spray. (Especialy hair, neck and *Sweaty* areas...you know...pits and stuff. I haven't been winded in over 4 years...I owe it all to scent disipline and the SENT-LOK suite! Good luck! John |
RE: Is too much possible?
I think that too much of any cover scent can be alarming to deer. I usually use one of the cover scent discs on my hat when hunting. It is quite strong smelling. I think that at times it has kept deer from me. I am undecided on using them next year.

I also think that scent free is the way to go. I wash my camo with baking soda and keep it hung on the clothes line outside all season long. It works for me.
