I pay very close attention to every weather forecast--esp the wind direction when I' m going hunting that day ' cause I want to know which way they' re claiming the wind will be coming from.

Even though I KNOW it' s gonna change 180 degrees the minute I' m set-up 20 feet up a tree, I still choose my stands based on the weatherman' s guess.

I' m fanatical about keeping my own scent to a minimum--clothes washed in baking soda/scent-free detergents. Shower with unscented soap before EVERY hunt--including hair.

Get gasoline BEFORE heading out to hunt and carry extra shoes in truck just in case I HAVE to stop for gas.

And STILL, I know the winds gonna change on me once I' m set.

CBM, DAVE H....thanks. Glad to hear there' s at least a couple other folks out there that suffer like me;)

Try this one. Where I hunt we have what I call " knobs" . A couple hundred acre ' knob" that juts up from say 1000ft, to as high as up to 2500ft(on some). Well depending on where you set up....the wind can be blowing from any direction. Say you have a west wind at 15 mph....well depending on where you are....many times that wind will hit the knob and wrap around it. So you actually have a N or S wind depending on where you are. I actually hunt some spots knowing the primary (forecasted) wind will be out of one direction...and with how strong it is " supposed" to be blowing I know I' llm have a different wind where my stand is. The other kink is....if it doesn' t blow as strong (as was forcasted) I may have a different direction totally. And of course....you know it will change an hour after I get in the perfect position. LOL...it actually gets kinda comical sometimes. I' ve hunted there many years...and still have a hard time with it. Murphys law I guess.

Anyhow, sorry for the rant. I envy you folks that hunt where the wind is steady:)

I use as much scent control as possible, my experience is that you really never know where the deer are going to be... especially with calling... I mean you may have a general area you think they are in, but when it comes to Mature Whitetails, and being able to consistantly harvest them... You have to have scent control, no 2 ways about it...

This will be the first year I consider my self a scent control freak. I bought Scent-Lok for this season and can' t wait to try it. I will also be showering, dressing at my location, etc. I am taking all the steps possible to be 100% scent-free. I wil report back during the season and let you know if it helps me at all.

WV Hunter, I`m with ya man. The wind changes on me a lot of the time and
almost always seems to be just after sun-up.
The one thing I dont have is a lot of stand choices, sure if the wind isnt
right, I can go to where it is but then I`ll be hunting a stand that I have
never even seen a deer from.
Ive got 3 GOOD stand sites, but the wind will affect them all about the same.
So I have 3 choices-
#1- sit in a stand that I`m pretty sure I wont see anything but squirrels.
#2- stay home.
#3- get in my good stand and hunt high, hope for the best.

If I take option 1 I`ll be wondering what I`m missin 200 yds away.
Option #2 isnt an option.

So I just take the best care I can with my scent and climb high.
Like Rack said though, I do a lot of thinking about the deer that bust me
and I never knew it.[:' (]

i like the scent killer products, they work great.i went to wally world and bought 32 oz bottle including the 4 oz field bottle. before i leave the truck i spray all over me when i get in my treestand, i use the field bottle to spray me again.i also like to wear rubber boots they keep the scent in i would not go huntin without my lacrosse burlys.
