Would you shoot a buck in velvet?

Saw a really nice buck, probably 170 class and the first non-typical I have seen on my property. He' s still in velvet and the KY season opens in less than two weeks. Just wondering your opinions on shooting one while still in velvet. Thanks.

Absolutely, I would love to take a buck in velvet but by the time our season opens they are shed off. You won' t be able to score it but that isn' t a big concern for me. If you want it scored and in the book don' t do it.

TAKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True, you can' t officially score it with the velvet, but who cares. Get the pictures, then take off the velvet, and score it.....if the score matters to you!!!!

I say, if he walks up on you in velvet, don' t think twice about coming to full draw.

Mez......P&Y has seperate entries for velvet animals. I would love to get one......and actually will be hunting mule deer in velvet next week. I think it would be a neat addition to a trophy room to have a nice buck in velvet.

I' d shoot him in a heartbeat !! ;)

Being a newbie to the bow and arrow thing...pretty much any deer w/o spots is a shooter. A NT in velvet.....that' s a no brainer. Good luck.

I' d much prefer ANY buck in velvet, it looks really cool to me.
It was a goal of mine for some time, and I finally coneccted last 9/1 in DE. Hopefully I can do the same thing this coming Monday, with one big enough for the wall. Velvet racks make an awesome mount, I' ll be trying my best. [8D]

In a heart beat! I have never seen a buck in velvet in season, but this year they are opening the season in the beginning of Sept. instead of Oct., I may finally get my chance.

Yeah, they Ky season starts in 10 days and the bucks are in velvet. If is was a shooter I would take it.

I do not think I would have a problem shooting it either....though, in my case, considering when our season starts I do not foresee it happening any time soon.

Hell yeah. If you don' t want him in velvet....after you down him, strip it off...that' s easier than trying to mount him in velvet.

take him, it' s a rare trophy not all areas give you an opportunity to shoot a velvet buck....

not only would I ; I have two in velvet now.and would take another anytime anyplace.
They make the most handsum mount,if only the horns on a plaque.[:-][:-]

I guess I must be the oddball. I have no desire to shoot a buck in velvet. I feel like they just aren' t " ripe" until the velvet comes off. I can' t explain it, but a rack in velvet just has no aesthetic (sp?) appeal to me. By no means though am I knocking those who find them desirable, a buck with the bow is a trophy no matter what![X(]

A friend of mine has a beautiful 6 point mounted that is in full velvet. I would definately shoot one in velvet without any hesitation.

Our season always opens on Sept 15th and I' ve often seen a few bucks still in velvet then. One was a nice buck that was making scrapes and still in velvet on Sept 21st! He' s on my wall now--in velvet.

I' d probably shoot it, but Bucks in velet don' t do much for me. I' d really rather take it with the velvet off.

Good Luck!!
