The Knot on the Tree Stand Rope
I was wondering what hunters were using with the new and expensive bows these days, to haul them up and down to the tree stand.
The price and names of some of these bows would make me nervous, alone. Personally, I never had a failure. Use a fishing knot to secure my bow - an improved clinch knot. Was good enough to hold fishing hooks and bows for me. |
I just put a loop on the rope and then put it thru the cam and around. Never a problem
I have seen it also put thru the cam then to the stabilizer |
A couple of overhand knots works for me, never really had a problem before with doing it this way so I'm going to stick with it. I have a lot of stands out so a piece of rope is fairly inexpensive and don't have to worry about buying a lot of clips.

Yep a couple of granny knots (overhand) and I am good to go. More worried if my ropes will hold rather than the knots
|
I leave my pull up ropes on all my stands and I buy the 30ft pull up ropes from Wally World. I then break off the plastic clip and put a large swivel dog leash clip on in place of it. That way I can pull up my bow and rattling antlers or bow and back pack without worry of the knot coming undone or loose. Just pass it through the cam and clip back onto the string.
In case of needing a rope to drag out a deer in emergency I forgot/lost my deer drag, there I go. |
I use a poly-cord with a carabiner attached to it
|
I use a rope with a snap on it as well.

I use these,..can get them at lowes, sears, ace,..maybe menards,..etc...
http://www.gardnerbender.com/pdf/new...le_Wraptor.pdf I use the med. 2" size, it has a hole in it to tye on the rope, and doesnt scratch the pulley's or cams. When done hunting for the day, i can clip it to a rung of the ladderstand which keeps it secured till next time,..easy one hand operation to attach and/or remove from the bow. |
All I use is a length of parachute cord and tie it to the limb just below the cam with an overhand knot then a slip knot.
