Peeing from Stand!?

I certainly have my own opinon but wanted to see what the group thought of relieving youself while on stand or in blind!

Boy, what an interesting thought, even though everyone one has that urge, I have to say, 1 gallon milk container with about two ounces of Hydrogen Peroxide, this will help nutralize the acids in your urine. Keeps the acid in your urine from stinking up your area, after your season is over, empty contents and toss the milk container away once you get home. Simple and it works..

I hunted with an old-timer that use to urinate on his bait pile. In his opinion the deer liked the salt. I thought he was crazy, but he did shoot a lot of deer off those stands!

Don' t think I would go that far, but I think urinating in jugs is overated.

The buck I shot with my bow last year was walking right through my spray pattern :D

My hunting partner carries his wizz in a bottle and I just let it fly.........I see waaaaaaay more deer then he does.

IMO people use scent as an easy excuse for why they aren' t seeing deer...........same thing with camo. My father has killed more deer in jeans and a T-shirt then I can count. Years ago they didn' t have all these fancy things for hunters to spend all their money on..................and guess what?? They still killed deer, and plenty of them.

Do your best to avoid bringing tons of unatural scents into the woods and get up a decent tree with any old camo and you are all set............getting fanatical about it is just a bit silly IMO.

If people spent more time scouting and properly placing stands they wouldn' t have to spend thousands of dollars on every call in the book and the newest toys that magically attract deer to you in 5 minutes..........they also wouldn' t be sharing a seat with a bottle full of piss [X(]

I have heard that human male urine can be an attractant to deer . . . but I' ve always been leery of trying it.

there was a artical in one of my bowhunting magazines ( i think it was petersons bowhunting ? 2 or 3 issues ago ) that said deer can not tell the differance in human piss and animal piss. but if your not comfortable you can buy a container called the bladder

Heres the bottom line. It depends on the person shooting the stuff. I know for a fact that deer spook and get very nervous when they smelled mine. I now always carry a glass bottle. Ive had two many deer get nervous and bolt when they smelled the my urine on some bushes. I did an experiment with my game cameras
and set out corn piles 50 yards apart. I peeed about 6 ft. from one of the piles and left the cameras out for two weeks. It took deer a week before they touched the contaminated site. I have a hunting buddy that can pee right out of his stand and the deer dont seem to mind.

I use to be a " scent freak" where urine was concerned. I didn' t even want a couple of drops missing the bottle. However, 2 years ago I read about some studies that were done where deer actually used the scrapes with human urine more often than they did with buck urine. I decided to try it and started urinating on scrapes. The deer didn' t quit using them, so I started urinating off of my stand and I actually saw more deer last year than I have seen in several years. I don' t think they pay any attention to it.

I have to say that I agree with atlasman to some extent on this one. I can relate several experiences in recent years where deer either paid no attention to where I urinated or were actually curious about it.

Now, I am not saying that I would use it as an attractant but I do not think it has the negative affect on them that everyone believes. However, as someone stated above, that is going to vary somewhat from individual to individual and from diet to diet.

I let er fly. The deer' s reaction depends on whether I' m drinking plain old Foldgers, or 100% Columbian. That Columbian is some strong smellin stuff. Now Miller Lite is a different story, them choice hops and barley bring them in on a rope.

There' s an interview article in this month' s Bowhunting World with Mike Weaver (I believe that' s his name), the guy with the MOST P&Y entries of all time. He pees wherever and whenever the urge hits him, even regularly pees in scrapes.

I started letting it fly 2 years ago, deer could seem to care less.

I do not worry about it. Shot just as many deer after urinating then if I did not. You got to go you go. I tried the bottle deal. A couple times I forgot the bottle was in my pocket wnen I left the stand. The cap was not tight so the pee spilled all over me anyway. I shot many a deer from a stand thay I urinated on every day

Maybe we could request some funds to supply nub with various beverages. Then he could study their affects on whitetail behavior. There has got to be a grant out there somewhere that we can apply for. ;)

At my lease last year I was the only one who saw deer all season AND the only one who let it fly. After that experience..I' m going when I gotta go.

I' d like to hear what Rack-Attack has to say on this subject. As for me I use a snapple bottle in a home-made denim bag thats hung from the tree.

I watched a show on Michigan Outdoors where they pee' d upwind of some deer and the deer walked right up to the puddle and investigated, I say let ' er fly!

I' m with NUB on the different pee strains smell different theory.
If I pee in the dirt after an all night binge (when I was younger) it would foam up something fierce. Now that I' m a little older and popping multi- vitamins- watch out, that pee will wake you up annd curl your nose hairs. Not only is it mountain dew yellow, it carries an odor you won' t soon forget.
I wonder what these odd smelling streams do to the deers nose??

My beverage of choice on my way to the stand is a 16 oz mountain dew- yummy yummy!!

glass bottle? I give up drinking the stuff when they went to plastic [X(]

I agree though, what goes in must come out. Maybe " they" can come up with a deer scent in the form of a pill or drink that you can swallow and process for the morning hunt....that would be great. :D

Something I' ve noticed after " experimenting" with this subject while hunting.

Female deer seem to be attracted to the scent. I' ve seem them sniff and lick at it, walk away and then return to it.

Big bucks seem to sense a challenge--I' ve watched them scrape right where my " test" sample landed. It doesn' t seem to scare them at all.

The only ones who reacted negatively was younger bucks. I think they are intimidated by what they think is a mature buck.

Must be the overpowering testosterone in my sample! ;)[8D]

I use to carry a urinal with me ever time on stand. but about 3 years ago, I had an 8 point walk within 5' from the base of my tree, that I' d just peed out of about 30 minutes before. he never even acted suspicious. I ain' t worried with carrying a urinal since.

I always use a bottle with a screw cap. There are some guys at work that say they pee from their stand but that could be why they never bring any deer jerky to work:D

Let it go! I have had both deer and coyotes come in within seconds after I have gone. The first time I had it happen I was in the middle going when I deer ran within 15 yards of me.

I usually just let it go if I can' t hold it. All I can say for sure is that it hasn' t bothered the deer that come in range of me. However, these are usually immature animals, so I can' t say for sure if it has a negative effect on mature bucks or not. ???

RE: Peeing from Stand!?

That' s great for all you guys out there, but for us ladies it' s a bit more challenging. You try peeing off a stand 25 ft in the air when you have to strip from the waist down and you' re wearing 7 layers of clothes!!! Not a fun experience. And the worst part about it is that, unless you put your safety harness on under all your clothes, you end up having to take that off too just to relieve yourself, a practice that, I think everyone would agree, isn' t safe.

My solution? I make sure I go before I get in my stand no matter where I am, at the base of the tree, at the truck or somewhere between. And I try not to drink too many fluids once I' m on my stand. When I go near my stand the deer don' t seem to mind that much especially the bucks... ;)

RE: Peeing from Stand!?

Maybe someone can argue this, but from what I had read it IS ok to piss as long as your not taking any medications. For some reason the deer can pick up on that in the urine.

What about the " cow peeing on a flat rock" noise that is made from a 25' decent?
Sounds loud to me.

Maybe I need to pop my vitamins at lunch, sounds good to me.

i' ve always heard that the smell of human urine doesn' t seem to bother deer and i have always been leary about goin near my tree stand , however after reading thru this topic i think from now on i' m just gonna let it fly ,who knowsmaybe i' ll even save a couple bucks on lures ![:-][:-][:-][:-][:-]

Ive always been afraid to try it too, but now I think Ill let er rip.
I must have a pretty big bladder cause I can stay up 7 or 8 hrs without goin,
but by the time I get back to my atv I`m about to bust. My huntin buddy
always lets his fly, every 30 minutes it seems(not that I`m watchin or anything)
but he seems to see a lot less deer.

RE: Peeing from Stand!?

I know conventional wisdom and advice says to put it in a bottle or wait untiol you leave the area. But I have had 6 point and 8 point deer come up to my tree and lick the base of the trunk of my tree after I had let go when the coffee excess was too much to hold. I' m not saying it is " the" thing to do....just saying I have personal experience of a couple of decent deer that found it enticing.

i peed from my stand one time and a deer went right under me sniffed it

and all i seen was a big white tail going thru the brush. you won' t see me pee from my stand again.

the key to a good hunt is bring a bottle.

Another female point of view...

Just before rifle season last year I was out scoutin' with my camera. Had to go, so I went. As I pulled up the drawers I heard something behind me. Turned round to see a six point looking at me from about 15 feet. [:o]

Just the other day I did the same thing and continued walking. As I circled around my path I heard something. I could see a sassafrass sapling shaking like crazy. There was a buck right there rubbing his velvety antlers all over the sapling.

I' m no expert but perhaps it just depends upon the person. I drink a lot of Coca-Cola so maybe that' s it for me. :D

Can' t wait til October......
