Need Help

Hey im 14 and im 5'10 about 185 lbs and i was looking to get into bow hunting and I like the Diamond Razor edge would that be a good bow to hunt deer and turkey with and what would be a good draw weight im pretty strong i lift weights reguarly for football
thanks

diamond makes good bows but i think the best way to start is to go to an archery shop that has an indoor range and shoot some different bows and have them give you the tips on accesories and shooting form. As far as draw weight goes i would work on your form first with a lighter weight then after you get the form down i would start to go up in small increments. Most bows have a 10 lb adjustment so try to start with something like 50 or 55 lbst until you get your form down then work your way up to 60 or 65 or until you are comfortable. But remember weight is not everything. Good luck and welcome to the sport.

Thanks ! man this will definitely help

Definitely go to a shop for help. From your description, you will outgrow the razor edge very quickly. Bow is great for women and kids but you are at the point where I would look at a different model.

some guys dont believe in used bows but i personally dont see anything wrong with most of them, you just have to be sure of the overall condition. bowsite.com usually has a large selection.

Have you checked the selections at some local archery dealers? This time of year you should be able to find some of last years bows at a discount. Cabelas have some good discounted packages but you don't get the personalized help that you would at an archery shop. Check around because again I think the razor edge will not last you but a year or so before you will be looking for something else. Also, the accessories on the razor are very basic and not worth much.

Also, don't think that I am discouraging you from getting a bow, I am encouraging you to find one that will last you for a few years. Bowhunting is a great sport that you will enjoy. Also very addicting. Good luck.

also which do you think makes better bow martin archery or bear archery

HDMontana 03-05-2012 12:11 PM

I currently shoot a Martin but have friends who shoot Bear. I think both are good brands. Most all the companies out there make good bows and will stand behind their products. You need to try out a few at a dealer and buy the one that feels comfortable to you. Different bows can have a different feel to the draw cycle. What feels good to one person might not feel right to the next. That is the advantage to buying from a dealer. You can try different bows and if it's a good dealer they will get you into something that is right for you and last for awhile.

yeah thats what ill do thanks for the help. i hope i get my bow and get ready for deer season and maybe spring turkey

sdhunter11 03-05-2012 06:04 PM

i started with a bear vapor 300 and killed 3 deer and 1 gobbler in one season before saving enough cash to get my mathews. But HD is right, most all bow companies will stand behind their product. I think it will probably just boil down to shopping around and trying out as many bows as you can. Besides it is fun to do. lol

My dad shoots the diamond and like it alot.Go to a archery shop and get measured for draw, then look for a nice used bow all set up at that draw. The pull weight can be adjusted to what works for you.Set you draw weight as high as you can and still draw back smooth with out haveing to stuggle/shake etc.. When you draw on a deer you want as little movement as possible. On a limited budget the diamond or bear will make a great first bow!!

If your not sure on a brand of bow, or are torn between two. You can go to www.totalcompoundbows.com They have reviews, specs, and ebay listings on just about every bow out there right now from every brand.
