How far do you hunt from where you park?

Just curious. I hunt on public land(no gun deer hunting aloud, only archery), and I go 3 miles. It was 2, but they moved the parking lot 1 more away from where it was:(. I can' t use any motorized vehicle. I can ride my moutain bike 2 1/2 miles down the graveled levee, then I carry my stand the last 1/2 mile. I made a 2 wheel cart, which I attach to the bike for hauling in my climber stand or hauling out my deer. This year I want to make a rack for carring my stand on my bike, so that I can just use the cart for the deer.

Two to four miles minimum. But I park when I get to my campsite then I don' t move the truck for at least three weeks. Everything I do is on foot.

It depends on where I' m setting up. I have a few places where I can be hunting with-in 150 yards of my truck. MOST of my spots though are 1/4 mile to a mile + away.

I ride my Big bear to all my huntin spots whether on our lease or on public land. I usually park within 150-200yds of my huntin spot. sometimes a little further, depends on the area I' m huntin.

Usually between a 1/4 mile and mile..depends on where I hunt. If I am with my fatherinlaw...closer. He cannot get around as well since his knee surgery.

id have to say no more than a mile but mostly within a couple hundred yards because im fortunate enough to have roads cut through most of my hunting areas. and its all public hunting grounds.

Considering the fact that the area I hunt has roads interlaced throughtout it I think it would be relatively hard to walk more than a half mile from any given road. ;) Having said that I would guess approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mile to any given stand.

RE: How far do you hunt from where you park?

I' m with PABowhntr. I hunt about 1,000 acres and there are logging roads all thru it. Also my parents house sits on one side of it, and I often hunt on the edge of their pasture which is only 300-400yrds from their house. But if hunt the interior woods, I drive my 4-wheeler about 1/4 mile or a little farther, from where I hunt.

At least 1 mile when I am hunting on land that other hunters have access to. I have found that 99% of the bowhunters in my area will not walk a mile in the rugged terrain that I hunt. As a result I no longer have to worry about my tree stands being stolen and best of all I have seen way more game. The farther I can get away from a ATV road the better I like it!!! :D

Usually 400 yards to 1/2 mile. There is one wood I hunt with trails everwhere so I sometimes park the ATV within 200 yards and still see tons of deer.

Good Luck!

Where I live there aren' t many places you can get far back in without cutting another road. I' ve hunted anywhere from 30 yds to 3/4 mile, but mostly 100-400 yds is average.

If I can figure it out, I will try to post a picture of my bike rack. I don' t have a scanner or a digital camera.
I should have already made it, but I always seem to put things off till the last minute.I am going to use old folding lawn chairs. I hope that it works better than the cart I made. I used 24" bike wheels that kept tilting in(due to weak axles), but I have wheelchair wheels to try for this season. The spokes will be stonger, and they have sealed bearings that I hope to use.
I did haul 3 deer out last season with it. Much better than dragging them the 2 miles.

My hat is off to you. To stay out for 3 weeks is impressive. Every time that I stay out from dusk till dawn, I tell myself not again.(but I still due it) Do you hunt in colder weather to keep the meat fresh? Here bow season last from october 1st till the middle of January.

If I' m on public land, I walk up to 1.5 miles from where I park. If I' m on private, it' s a short 50 yd walk to my treestand.

How long does it take you to get a deer out, if it takes you 2 hours to get to your hunting site? I hope you have a nice cart, or a nice friend or two to help.

one stands in the middle of the section...bout half mile and ones next to the big road... bout 250 yards..... thinking of some more places tho... just gotta get permission..... so that could easily extend it to 3/4 to a mile...[:-]

I hunt moslty farms in my area and I park in their barn driveways out of their way. So it is only a matter of where I chose to hang my stands at. I like to stay back in the woods a ways and away from field edges so it is usually a good walk.

I think I' m gonna set up a blind in the bed of my truck. Because no matter how far away from it that I walk, when I come back, there' s usually several deer right there by it eating. [:@]

For bowhunting, I usually dont have to go over a half mile. But for gun, I might go a mile or a mile and a half.

I' ve been successful anywhere from 50 yards to 2 miles, but most of my stand sites are around 1/4 mile in. Those long 2 mile deer are usually the result of wanna-be still hunting that gets way too fast and I cover way to much ground! :D

Most of my stands I can park within about 300 yards. The furthest I usually have to walk is 1/2 mile.

Two years ago I was hunting a public hunting area, that a buddy of mine had told me where to set up and hunt. I made the mile hike and hunted and wound up seing more hunters than deer. Late, that morning on the way out I was about 50 yards from the truck and I heard a twig snap. I eased over to the side of the road and there was a doe moving toward another group of does that were feeding on acorns not more than 75 yards from the parking area. They were down in a hollow and it was pretty thick and if the one hadn' t been close enough to the road, that I could hear it, I would have never known they were there. The next day I parked in the same old spot, but I hung my stand about 70 yards from the parking area. I watched hunters come and go all morning. The deer would just ignore hunters slamming their doors and starting their engines. Other deer would literally ease up to the road and listen and look both ways and then they would come right on across. I saw 3 bucks several does and killed a doe that morning off of that stand. I have hunted that stand several times since and it is always a productive stand. I learned that day that deer pattern people more often than people pattern deer. I also learned that you may have to walk a mile to get back to the deer and sometimes if you walk a 1/4 mile, you may have already walked past them. The key is being versatile and being willing hunt places that most people wouldn' t.

I once shot a deer that walked right in front of my truck.

Depends on where Im going. If Im home I walk about 140 yards. Right now Im sitting here watching 19 Turkeys in my back field and yesterday I got a black bear on video tape feeding there also! - so my vehicle stays right in the garage. Other times its anywhere from 2/3 hundred yards to a couple miles.

I usually walk about a 1/2 mile or so, but it depends a lot on the spot. But that is usually the average.

I guess that I' m lucky enough having private land to hunt that I' ve never had to walk far. I don' t like having to walk a long distance to my stand, and definitely not in warm weather.
