To all your welcome. Yes all 200 lbs in one spot. But this time of year you could get away with just 100 lbs. Typically that much in May. This makes the fourth year of use I think. From year to year can see a difference.

Trust me boys their are bigger than that in them woods.

Would it hurt to put minerals out late, such as early Sep.?

Just 100 lbs, won' t do much other than the salt for the deer shedding summer coat to winter coat. They will stick with it a little until the rut then die off.

The does after the rut will start to benefit again higher birth weights and more lactation.

But again the best time to put it out FEB/MARCH/APRIL

As soon as turkey season is over I start a feeding also until end of august/mid september with corn/deer feed with high protein.

Mid late summer keeps stress off of the buck, espically young buck since the green woods start to loose it moisture.

Here why I am more concerned with the summer. Old shoot theory behind shooting a spike is completely out the window, they are not longer what some consider cull bucks. Studies have show that rainfall that second year of antler growth can change the complete average of bucks with 3 points or less by over 50%.

Also studies have found that, if the young spike bucks are allowed to mature that under the Boone & Crockett Scoring system that a spike buck compared to a 4 point buck in it’s second year of antler growth some consider the spike a cull buck. But when the spike bucks are allowed to live, when both those bucks reached maturity that only 6 inches difference has been found.

So the key to second year antler growth is Genectics/Food/Water. Well that is my opinion.

Horntagger, thanks for the info. Have a quick question regarding the quote above. Does more rain = bigger racks? Here in WV we have had an extremely wet year...would that suggest that this years one year old bucks will have a better chance of growing bigger racks next year?

Is there a website or an article somewhere about this subject?

Thanks..and great pics!

No/Yes it' s a seminar I attended and wrote an article on that seminar and noted this in that. So all I have is the 5 hours video/notes that I took at that time.

But I also went to the site of the people doing the seminar to see the same thing.

Here is the link.

Long article, but worth reading.
