Which climbing stand do you suggest?
My wife is buying me a climbing stand for my B-day and I have been hunting out of locked tree stands for many years and I want to add a climber to my arsenal. I am currently looking at the api bowhunter. Can anybody suggest any stand better than an API. I no this is kind of a redundant question, but I need your advise. Thanks

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
This question really does get asked quite often. But then if there was some rule about not being able to post the same question twice then I wouldn' t have anything new to read everyday.
I' ve used both API & Summit climbing stands. Both are very comfortable. Both are about the same to carry in & out of the woods. Both feel just as secure 20 ft off the ground. But in my opinion the Summit is just easier to set up and take down. API uses pins to secure the chain that wraps around the tree. They are pretty noisy trying to slide them through the hole and a pain when you drop one while getting set up in the dark. The Summit cable system still makes a little noise but not nearly as much as the API pins. Just easier to use in my opinion. |
RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
Matthews,
I have the API Grand Slam Supreme and love it. The Grand Slam fully encloses your upper body and feels much safer. My brother-in-law has the API bowhunter and I hunted out of it last year. I felt very unstable climbing the tree, due to the lack of support and did not feel that comfortable once settled in. I don' t think you can buy a better stand than the API. I will also say that I have not had any problems shooting my bow out of the Grand Slam either sitting or standing. |
RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
SUMMIT----enough said

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
Lone Wolf, all others are inferior.

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
Just make sure its a good quality climbing stand. Summit, API, Ole Man, Loggy Bayou, Buckshot, Lone Wolf come to mind. I prefer the Lone Wolf but any of these are good quality climbing stands.

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
Once I bought my Lone Wolf Aplha Sit & Climb, I sold my API Grand Slam Supreme and Summit Bushmaster. There was nothing wrong with either the API or Summit, just the Lone Wolf fit my tastes better. Look at as many climbers as you can and see if you can try some out before you buy.

I use and love the summit cobra it is super light at 17 lbs, all padded, easy to back pack and sets up in seconds.

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
Try the others first then try the best Buckshot tree stands. they are great.

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
i have never owned an API but you have to remember that they just went out of business and someone else bought them out.. Now all their stands are made over seas and the quality is not as good.. they make stands just for cabelas and bass pro shops now.. there is much more info about API but thats about the extent that i know.. I have heard that the quality is not there like it used to be

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
I love the Ol' man line and feel they are superior...that' s why there are so many stands on the market and most are doing well because archers are a diverse group...like bows, none are the best just personal opinions.
I love my Ol' man, they pack easy, install easy, quiet, ease of use and more comfortable than any stand I' ve tried over the years. Many on this forum love the Summit line, I tried it, didn' t like it but that' s my opinion. Because of my one purchase of the Ol' man original, I' ve purchased an Ol' man Grand and have about 10 friends purchase the Ol' man line as well after simply trying mine. If you get a chance, try them first, some are better than others and you might miss out if you don' t at least try the Ol' man. |
RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
I am a big summit fan myself. I honestly believe the are the very best line of climbing stands on the market. they combine all the features a bowhunter needs into one package. Strong, stable, quiet, user freindly etc. Try a summit before you buy anything else.

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
Loggy Bayou

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
summit simply nnnow because to product support API is out of business

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
FWIW, I have a friend with an API Bowhunter and He hates the seat. Says it' s not comfortable at all and the straps dig into you. It has a sling typ seat, but not much for a pad on top. I have 2 Summits and wouldn' t consider buying anything else simply because my Summits are comfy, reliable, quit and lightweight.

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
i have a river edge climber... i can sit in it all day and be comfortable... and its pretty quite when climbing up and down.... |
RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
Summit is the total package. Overall, I have ZERO complaints.

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
I have an API, a Summit, a Cougar Claw and and Ole Man. My favorite is Ol' Man by far. Its ver quite, can climb very large trees, and the fit to your back while packing in is amazing. I prefer the Ol' Man elite or air elete over the orginal, its lighter and a bit smaller, easier to maneuver.

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
I went to the Bass Pro Fall Classic yesterday with intentions to buy a new climber, I sold my API Bowhunter to a buddy getting started in bowhunting. I looked at API, Summit, Old Man, Strongbuilt, and a few others. The Old Man and APIs were on sale pretty cheap, but I chose the Summit Cobra XLS. After tinkering around with it I think Ill like better than my API, its lighter and seems very stable. The Old Man seemed cheaply made and didnt look very stable, not to mention very long and looks hard to carry.

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
Getting a new Lone Wolf sit and climb in a couple of weeks. I' ve also got a Ol' man that has the carbon platform and gunrest/footrest. It works great also, very comfortable. Just want to try something else and didn' t want to downgrade to a API or Summit. OOoopppss....Did I say that?!?[:o]:D

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
Well I guess I will be the odd ball here and say API, I have the Bowhunter and I love it.
The Lone Wolf is easy to carry and set up but what people dont tell you is how uncomfortable it is, I know some will not agree with me but thats just my 2 cents worth. |

RE: Which climbing stand do you suggest?
All I know is that I have a back problem which used to prevent me from sitting more than 3 hours at a time. I bought a SUMMIT VIPER XLS and now sitting is no problem.
