What is the best climbing stand for the money?
So what do you guys have ?
I have been wanting to get one and dont want to pay the price of something like a summitt. |
Summit stand are really not all that expensive when compared to something like a lone wolf. I have had the same summit bushmaster for the last 9 years. It was $200 dollars back when i bought it. It still runs about the same price if you get the original not the outfitter. Or they often go on sale at the end of the season. Treestands for me are not something to skimp on seeing as they hold your life on their platforms. What is your budget?

I climb in summit's exclusively. Have tried several others, both cheaper and mroe expensive, and they are my favorite. Look on craigslist and ebay...may find a good deal on a used one.
|
summit x3, you will not regret it.

Pay the price...Why trust you life to a cheap stand???
I use the older APIs but what I have noticed is the guys that buy cheap are buying more expensive ones later...They are lighter, last longer and more comfortable... |
Have two Summits...there is no price tag on safety...and here are some other feathers..
Light Quiet quick set up.. comfortable I sit all day in mine...my drive is too far for a 1/2 day hunt...180 miles I've got the Bullet Backpacker..folds up to about 5 inches. They made it for one year..they are kind of hard to find. here's one for 289.00 http://www.outdoorsporting.com/famil...7/display.html |

I have a rivers edge climber it is heavier than the summits and the api but I feel very safe in it i have had it for about 5 years and it is still in good shape .

My API cost me 230.00 and I love it with the foot rest and a seat and backrest you can do an all day sit in and be very comfortable. It is going on it's 3rd. year and still looks new. I have not heard anything bad about the Summit stands nor mine for that matter,if I get another one it may be a summit due to the fact that mine is a little heavier because of the chains they use to grip the tree. I think the Summits use a cable if I remember right.

I have the Summit Titan. Most comfortable, solid stand I think I've ever sat in.

Summit OpenShot

I have used Summit in the past, would feel perfectly safe using one and do sell them and IMO they don't hold a candle to a Cougar Claw.
With the Cougar claw you can safely level the stand while you are up in the tree. The cables are a hell of a lot better made than a Summit and you don't have to replace the shrink wrap all the time. The stands are 100% made in the USA All of them have a fold away foot rest built in All the pins are secured to the stand so you aren't loosing them in the woods The pins are coated to be quieter The seat has a pouch on the front to keep your drinks and food close http://www.cougarclawusa.com/treestands.htm |
I have used Summits before, and deffinately liked them. But i will never buy anything other than an Ol' Man. i absolutely love mine. I love the net seat, and the ease of packing it in and out. Also a VERY quite stand. absolutely awesome!

My favorite stand is this supermag.

I love my summit viper and Goliath.
Most importantly, stay safe and use a good fall restraint system. |
Summit all the way for me as well. Same reasons as everyone else, but another big one for me is that Summit has models that are all welded, no assembly required. No fumbling with any pins in the dark. Get yourself a high end climber and spend your money once and be happy for many many years.

I have always used API and they are good stands. This year Bass Pro was running the summit 180 on sale for $239. I had $75 on my Bass Pro point card so I bought one. I havent had a chance to try it out as of yet, but it really seems like a good stand.

you can buy the shrink wrap on ebay for cheap..I put mine on with a hand held butane torch..I have to put new shrink wrap on my Summit cables every year..no problem..but a 10.00 cost..takes about an hour...
New cables are 40.00 so I learned how to wrap my own Lol For you who don't have a Summit..the shrink wrap is a coating around the 5/16th cable..it keeps the cable quiet while climbing and minimizes rust from getting on the cable.. I am over 300 pounds and have had no problem worrying about safety..I have lost a few pounds though since the last hunting season. I love the Bulletbackpacker model as I hunt in dense terrain. I can manuever in the vegetation without getting my stand tangled up while carrying it in. I've had my stand since 2004...I since wanted a spare when I knew they only made the fold up model for one year..I simply typed in 'Bulletbackpacker Summit and I found 4 stores that still had a couple .I ended up buying the 2nd one from a hardware store from Mississippi. |
Get a summit! Best there is!

My summit is very comfortable. would recomend gettig one

Truthfully
I don't think the terms "best new climbing stand" and "money", go together too well.
And personally, I am glad I'm not paying the bills for any new newbie bowhunters. In fact, I have a very useable old tree stand, that won't handle those 12,000 foot parachute jumps the new safety standards are covering, but I still treat it like a precious "heirloom." Plus it won't even handle a 280 lb. bowhunter. It's a real old tree stand, you see. |
