How much is enough kinetic energy for deer hunting
Hi,
Was just wondering about my Kinetic Energy (36 fp) for deer hunting, is it enough. My arrow weight is 335 and my speed for them is 218. My draw length is 25 and my draw weight is 56 that is why my speed isn't much. All opinions is welcome. Thanks |
I think you should be fine. Just stick with a small diameter cut on contact head.

I think your fine. As long as your draw weight is equal to or greater than what your local Department of Natural Resources say to be legal you should be fine. i am sure 56 lbs is above that limit,Ie in Ohio it is 40 lbs draw weight. Good Luck

I am using the Rage 40 KE this year, is this a good chose for the set up?

as other stated,
state min poundage should be fine, if their poundage wasnt enough to take down a deer with certain weight of arrows, sure they would have arrow weights in the regs, 56# draw is plenty regardless of arrow used, |
when i first started bow hunting 5 years ago i started out at 55lbs and shot a lot of deer with no problems
|
Your draw weight will meet minimum requirements, but I would have much more confidence in a cut-on-contact broadhead versus the Rage at your current set-up. You are basically shooting the same speed as a traditional set-up, where cut-on-contact is the name of the game.

For sure cut on contact. I shot my first deer with 26 fb when I was 12 and I still got half an arrow in her. I also shoot traditional, and thos r about the numbers u see.

Should be fine. Might use fixed blades for that extra penetration.
