Bow Mount VS. Hip Quiver???
Anyone out their using a Hip Quiver? What is your experience?
I have recently put an soft lock 5 arrow quiver on my Hoyt RazorTec. It is very quite and holds the arrows great, but I am conserned about the WEIGHT and how heavy my bow is getting. So I am tring to lighten it up a bit. I am thinking about taking it off and using a hip Quiver. I hunt in mostly wooded areas in Wisconsin. Once I get to my stand I take would usually take the quiver off my bow and hang it in the tree. Not sure how well hip quivers work for going throught moderate to thick cover. I was looking at the Neet Mechanical Broadhead Quiver that snaps on and off a clip. Thanks for your input. |
RE: Bow Mount VS. Hip Quiver???
Buddy I' d stick to the bow quiver myself. I used to use a hip quiver and there were alright. I walk hunt and quite often go through alot of thick scrub. With the hip quiver the arrows were constantly getn snagged on vines and sticks[:@][>:]. Whereas with the bow quiver you only had to worry about getin your bow through the bush coz the arrows were stuck on the side of it. One less thing to worry about.;)
Another bummer about the hip quiver is I lost numerous arrows because the have a tendancy to fall out[:@][:' (]. It can get quiet expensive and frustrating lossing arrows after not even letn em fly at wild critters. My last point. In the case of an unexpected encounter with a critter you wouldn' t mine shafting with an arrow you want as least possible movement as to lessen the chance of it seeing you. With the bow quiver the arrows are right there on the bow so you don' t have as much hand movements to nock an arrow. Where as with the hip quiver you have alot more hand movements to get the arrow and nock it. As you can I don' t much like them hip quivers. If you practise with your bow quiver on your bow then you will learn to shoot with it on without even noticing it. I don' t even notice my bow quiver when I' m shooting, not even the extra weight. The only downpoint to a bowquiver is that when the wind picks up the quiver catches more wind making it alittle harder to keep steady. But I find it doesn' t make that much difference coz you learn to shoot when fighting the wind. Hope I helped. Happy hunting. Stalkin Steve;) |
RE: Bow Mount VS. Hip Quiver???
It' s a matter of choice. I, unlike Steve, love my hip quiver and will never put one back on a bow. I don' t like the unbalanced feel of a bow quiver. There' s seems to be about a 50/50 split on the decision among not only common hunters like myself, but the celebrity hunters as well. They' re not terribly expensive, try one and see if you like it.
Good luck. |
RE: Bow Mount VS. Hip Quiver???
I had much the same expierence as Steve with my hip quiver. It' s on the rack in the basement now.
I went back to the bow quiver for my tree stand hunting and remove the quiver once in the stand. It also works better if on horseback using a scabbard. I do have a Catquiver that I use when Im going to do a full day of stalking. I like the combination of backpack and quiver. It also makes moving quietly a little easier and keeps the bow a wee bit lighter. The thing is you can' t wear a Catquiver if you' re packing a stand in but that is not for which it is meant. |
