string silencers

i like the sim lleches but they dont really last to long has any one tried the buzz buster that attaches to your cable guard for string slap to reduce noise

I believe somebody tried it with mixed results. It worked as advertized and quieted the string down as well or better than other string silencers, but produced a funny tear when paper tuning.

Can' t help ya . . . I have used cats whiskers since the 1960' s. Trimmed to about 1-1/2" long they work great fot me and it is the bottom line that counts . . . my pocket book rates next.

All that said I am a STRONG believer in Sims Products . . . just not the String Leaches . . . although they are great . . . they just don' t last long enough for my budget.

If you stretch a piece of peep tubing over the leech' s center and then install it they will last much, much longer. I haven' t had to replace mine yet and they' ve been on my string for 3 years -- approx. 2000 shots per year. I' m shooting a Mathews FX @ 70 lbs & 29" . If you try that method I' m sure you' ll see that it works.

Years ago, I used to use fur, then went with cat whiskers, then leeches. the leeches seems to work about the best, but I went back to the whiskers this year. Sick of replacing the leeches.

Jason, I am having a hard time picturing how to get the tube over the center of the leeches. How is that done?

I really can' t tell the difference with or without string silencers so I use none! My pro shop guy told me if you can' t tell the difference don' t use them, all they do is slow you down, especially with the newer bows being so high-tech! I am no expert but makes sense to me! I do use limb savers!

I have some bowjacks here sitting here waiting to go on a bow. I was excited to try them, but someone else told me that they don' t stay on real well. I guess I' ll have to try and see. I think it' ll be hard to beat good old cat whiskers.

Hey I am new here but felt I should respond to this one. My brother just bought a thing called a Deadly Quiet. It goes on the cable guard and rests against the bow string. It works very well. I own a Mathews LX with string surpressors, and his bow with this Deadly Quiet on it is quieter than my bow. I think it is great because it doesn' t slow the string down, works very well and is very cheap to buy. Well I hope I helped a little. Look forward to reading more.

My bow came with string leeches already installed so I don' t know what--if any--difference they make. I thought mine were going to last forever until I read a thread here recently about them breaking off at the " turn" towards the tip. I thought mine were fine until I looked and saw that one end was broken off of each leech and the remaining two were getting there. I was told by a pro shop owner that they last longer if you wrap a piece of moleskin around the center before installing them--kinda like the peep-tubing idea, but I doubt that either of those methods would prevent the ends from breaking off.
