Protecting your permanent stands

I have several permanent stands on my property that are made of steel and very difficult to bring up or down. Does anyone cover their stands for the nonseason? With what? and Will leaving the stands on the tree damage the tree for this time? Thanks all.

I make steel stands that are pretty heavy. I will not leave them up all year, I like to bring them home and look them over. The elements can really screw up a stand if left out for very long periods of time.

what you could do to protect them is have them galvinised then paint them that will stop any rust altho it could get a little expensive

RE: Protecting your permanent stands

I've built a couple permanent stands on my farm. I bought some 14 guage metal studs (galvanized) and used galvanized lags to put them up. I inspect and repair them yearly...but because of their make-up I cannot take them down.

I make sure to belt myself in well in case there is a problem...but don't anticipate any.
