WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Curious to know I shoot about 3" to max 3.5 " group and trying to aim at smaller targets!! to get better
What do the rest of you guys SHOOT???? |
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
I think the rule of thumb is 1" for each 10 yds. 20yds=2" , 30yds=3" , etc, etc.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
I average about 2" groups most of the time at 20 yds. They open up to 2.5 - 3" " at 30 yards and about 3.5 - 4" at 40 yards. However, when everything falls just right and I am " on" , nocks and fletchings magically dissapear at any of the above distances:D, but that doesn' t happen too often;).
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
My " average" group for 25 yds would be somewhere between 2" - 3" .
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Same here, 2-3 inches. (except for when the mosquitoes are out, then I would say 10-12 inches[X(][>:])
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Inch or so. I only shoot three arrows at a target due to arrow damage. Take yesterday for example...25 yards at a deer target. First arrow in the heart. Second arrow is touching the right side of the shaft of arrow one. Third shaft Robinhoods the second arrow. [:o] Group size about 1/2 inch. I have dipped and crested carbon express, Terminator Hunter 4560' s. Way too much money in each arrow to ruin them.[>:] So far I haven' t pulled them apart but have pulled a part all the other ones cause of cost. We' ll see.

RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Same here - 2-3 inches at 25 yards.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
I' d say with my compound around 2" or just under. With the stick, around 4-5 inches.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
2" to 2 1/2" most days, sometimes a lot tighter, sometimes out to 3-3 1/2 inches.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
At 25 yards I don' t group arrows into one mark due to arrow damage. I use a Morrell bag with a 1.5- 2" center dot and I' m not happy unless all arrows are inside the center dot. If I shot all arrows into one dot, nocks would fly or arrows would be creased and each arrow is a new shot rather than aiming for the last shot arrow.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
If you' re bustin' nocks and blowin' up arrows you need to be shooting at a 5-spot target.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Exactly my point wolfen and that' s what I do on my Morrell. Good point.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
wolfen that is what I got after I got my new bow, the first day I practiced with it I creased an arrow and knocked off more fletchings than I care to think about.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Well...........
My typical 5 arrow group at 25yds is about 16 inches:( |
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
lol Rack, I know you mean one arrow in several dots in a 16" format....right? ;)
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Rack Attack you and I must have similar targets, we are shooting the same groups!;)
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Used to be around 2" for 6 shots. (That was expensive). Now that I have target panic really bad, it' s measured in feet!!
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
I have a 5 dot target. with the smallest dot 2 1/2" and the largest 5" . at 25yds I usually can get 3 out of 5 arrows in the 2 1/2" dot. but I' ll be satisfied when I can get 5 out of 5 in the 2 1/2" dot.:)
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Close enough that I don' t shoot at the same spot twice.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Somewhere between 2 inches and 2 feet[:-]
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
:D[:-]
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
I' m way to cheap to shoot groups anymore. Different spot for each arrow, or most times just shoot one arrow to duplicate hunting, put the bow down, go get the arrow, repeat as often as necessary :)
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Dang, when they start grouping to tight add another 10 yards:). If you start shooting 2" groups at 50 yards than ASA or IBO is calling.;)
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
i can hit a 1.5" circle at 30 yards pretty constant. i never shoot 2 arrows at the same target cause i loss to make nocks, fletching and arrows. i think 3 times now i have split an arrow with another arrow. aim small miss small
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Depends on my state of mind and concentration at the time. If I' m shooting hunting shots or trying to bust nocks. In simulated hunting shots from different positions, elevations etc I loose a little.(Shooting faster etc) If I were honest I' d probably have to say when I have good mental stuff and really bare down... maybe 1 1/2 inches at 20 with an occasional group the size of the bullseye. At 30... probably 3 inches with an occasional ringer that I like to forget about.[:' (] Odd thing is, it doesn' t get much worse at 40... probably still 3-4 inches. NOW, if I could only have every deer stand at a pre-determined distance and let me measure it off.[:-]
If I wanted to lie a little I' d just tell you about the groups where all arrows are touching or the half dozen Robbinhoods. That happens too. |
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
You guys are good! I have a circle in the center of my Black Hole target about the size of a paper plate. I try to keep it in there three out of four times. I can do that out to about 40 yards.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Country Nate.... you probably need to have someone check out your form or possibably your tune. With todays equipment you should really beable to tighten those groups up a whole bunch. A paper plate isn' t good enough. Throw in some range estimation errors and you missed by a mile. Even if you know the range the paper plate is too big. Seriously, someone who knows what they' re doing could fix you up in a lesson or two.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
AT twenty five yards I can, on a good day, put together a three arrow group that is 2 inches or under. On a bad day.....welll....;)
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
when i shoot at my block i shoot one arrow at each dot and one at one of the letter in the word block ,as long as the arrows are in the dots and the one i shot at the letter is no more than 2 or 3 " away then i' m ok,any more than that and i' m having a bad day.

RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
After listening to all this, I can' t wait to hear the excusses once bow season comes around, I hate to be the first one to miss.:D[X(][&:] lol
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
I have gotten as good as 1" groups, but seem to go out as far as 3" groups at times. I don' t know why. It is a mistery to me. Seems that I have good and bad days.
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
I wish I had 1 - 2" groups consistantly.... I guess that' s what practice is for... ;) Never had a problem hitting what I' m aiming for in the woods... *knock on wood* That' s all that matters to me! Hopefully by next season, I' ll have this new bow tamed down to a constant 1 - 2" group but for now i' ll settle with my 3 - 3.5" groups if I have to. I' m still gettin in the groove of this new bow. soon.... soon....
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
2 inches or less at 20, 3 1/2 at 30 an 40' s are generally 3 1/2 to 4.
When my form is on and my focus is where it should be I am deadly out to 45 and even 50. But I am working on hunting discipline now and don' t shoot anything over 40. |
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
2-3" most of the time
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
I will give you an honest up date on when I shoot tomorrow at day-thirty. Don' t put me under any pressure now. ;) Bobby
|
RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Haveing just shot 5 arrows at 25 yds and in useing a glove and the sun was in my eyes and the bugs were biteing me and the dog was a chewing my pant leg, I put 4 out of 5 in a soft ball group, the 5th was just outside the group.;) Bobby

RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
How many of you that are shooting really tight groups use a caliper without backtension? I use a caliper and when I first started shooting my groups were pretty good and then after 3 years my groups are terrible. I am considering switching to a back tension release, but I don' t think it should be necessary in hunting only. Thanks

RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Just to verify what I wrote, I checked it out last night. I shot five arrows at 25 yards (only one group)---4 were in a 1 1/2" group and the 5th was less than an inch further out.

RE: WHAT IS YOUR AVG GROUP AT 25 YDS?
Bill welcome to the world of target panic. In different forms it has affected just about every compound shooter I have known.I use a modified form of back tension, controlled squeeze that works well for me.When I am shooting really good I can whack arrows at 25-30 yds.Let me ask you a question? Is the pin jumping around on you and are you punching the release when the pin is where you want to hit?If so,try lining up your pin, then focus on the spot you want to hit,not the pin.Look thru the pin and focus on the target. Also make sure your draw length is correct.Make sure you are following thru and not collapsing on the shot. While a real back tension relese is more accurate,as long as you are not punching the trigger and anticipating the shot you can be pretty good with an index finger release.I would not use a true back tension release for hunting, although some guys do.I would also not recomend switching this close to hunting season. There is a thread on shooting form that has some good advice.Good luck.
