Southern deer jump the string more?????
 

Got a magazine in the mail yesterday , PETERSONS HUNTING. In one article it is mentioned that " STring jumping is a bigger problem with southern deer than with
northern deer." SAy what?????? I definatley dont believe everything I read.
Since Ive only hunted southern whitetails I cant really tell from experience if this has any merit. Have any of you ever experienced this difference between south and north deer. If you have, why do you think southern deer are more prone to this.

There is a diferance . I' ve hunted deer in florida , georgia , allabama, and pa , . The deer in georgia deffinately are more spooky than anywhere else I' ve hunted . When they step out they are looking in the trees for hunters , every time . I' ve never seen deer do that in the other states I hunt .

I think the storys a crock.[:o] I' ve hunted deer from WI. to Texas, they all can jump the string. Its amazing what these writers will dream up just for a story.

If you apply Bergmanns Rule to such a situation it would seem quite feasible.

No there really is a huge difference between Northern and southern deer, southern deer jump the string, northern deer duck it!:D

Well, it really gets down to the equipment we' re stuck with in the south. The yankees took everything after the invasion and all we have left is some old wooden bows and their pretty easy to jump the string on. Heck, when I was young, all the local kids shot at each other (we took time about being the yankee and would try to shoot him) but it wasn' t any problem dodging the arrow.:D[&:]

I' m sure it has NOTHING to do with the fact that down South the hunting seasons are 6 months long ... and bag limits are in the double digits.

Up North gun seasons may only be 1 to 2 weeks long, tops.

For example ... Georgia muzzleloader starts October 11-17 then the gun season starts from October 18th to January 11th(southern zone)

or Pennsylvania which has a Muzzleloader Antlerless only October 18-25 then gun season starts December 1 -13 then a late season " flintlock only" Dec 26th through January 10th

Penn' s bucks have 29 days to dodge lead .. 19 of those from Flintlock open sighted muzzloaders
Georgia bucks have 92 days to try and avoid being perforated by the best technology has developed.

I' d be a little more twitchy down South to!!!!!!!

MA Jay do you feel that what this Mag said to be factual? Or are you just jealous of the number of deer we have?;) I had a doe jump the string on me in an area that probably has not been hunted in years. How do you explain that?[:o]

I don' t believe for 1 second that deer down south have adapted some kind of superior reaction ability over northern deer!

I do think it may be possible that " some" deer may be a bit more twitchy from getting shot at for 3 months as opposed to 2 weeks!

and yes .. I am VERY jealous of 4 month long hunting seasons and double digit bag limits!!!!!
