WHAT ARE THE ODDS, THREE PIEBALDS IN ONE NIGHT

Hey guys,

Just got back from spotting tonight and WOW. Three different piebald deer. I saw the piebald that I saw last year (the first one I had ever seen). She is now a beautiful 1-1/2 year old doe. Her colors are more brilliant and she seems to have gained more white. I got some really really awsome footage of her, I might put some still shots that I get off my video camera on here tommorow.

Then, I went out to an area that I had permission to hunt last year. This is where I filmed the MONSTER buck last year, and that big 8 point I had pics of on here earlier. Well, there I saw the other pie-bald that I had seen last week. This deer was born this spring. It appears to be a button buck. He was laying beside his brother/sister, which is a perfectly normal deer. I got tons of good footage of them also, and I got each of those two fawns on camera as they bed down. Well, right down the field about 150 yards, I spot ma-ma deer, and guess what, she is piebald. I didn' t get good footage of her, as she was further away and walking through some high weeds. She is a big, fat, healthy doe.

Now, other than these deer, I saw 5 different bucks. I got two of the five on camera. A small 10 point and a small 5 or 6 point that were feeding beside each other. One of the other bucks was a MONSTER buck, he was hanging out in the back of the field where I saw the first piebald. I tried filming him, but, the spotlight was too dim, and the camera got too blurry for that distance (probablly 150 yards. I took binoculars thought and could tell he was atleast a 10 point. I would say low 140" class. The two other bucks I saw were pretty far off, and were nothing special.

So, what do you think the odds were of me having such a good night spotting? Three piebalds, 2-10 point bucks, and three smaller bucks. Plus numerous other does.

God, I love Pennsylvania. I just hope these deer keep reproducing. These piebalds are both on private property. One is in an area that we are allowed to spot, but nobody can hunt, so that deer is safe. The other one is in an area that only my friend and I have permission to hunt. I don' t think I would shoot that piebald as she was the one born this spring, but, you never know. That would be a pretty rare deer. [:o][>:] I think I would pass her up though, and maybe in a few years, we would see a really good population of pie-balds. :D

those are awesome chances now just if u could be lucky enough to see the buck in hunting season, it would eb great if that button buck piebald u said gets to grow up and get a nice set of antlers. is this all on farmland, im from Pa and havent seen too many bucks that were monsters but alot of real nice ones i wouldnt be ashamed to put on the wall.

RE: WHAT ARE THE ODDS, THREE PIEBALDS IN ONE NIGHT>> PICS!!

Well guys, I just remembered that I had taken still shots off my video camera of the two smaller pie-balds that I had got video of. I will put them on here to show you guys...

These aren' t the best quality pics, but, they are better than nothing.

This is the small one that I filmed last year when she was .5 years old. Like I said, I got MUCH MUCH better footage of her tonight, that I will try and get still shots of and put on here tommorow. She is much much more pretty, and has gained even more white. Plus, she has her summer coat now and that redish color looks AWSOME against the white of her. This pic was with her winter coat though. She crossed the road right in front of our car and that is when we got our best footage of her last year. Headlights, PIAA foglights, and a 2 million candle power spotlight aimed at a deer will illuminate the whole thing. :D

This is still shots from when we spotted the second small piebald last week. He is alot more white than the piebald in the pics above. He was close to the car, but, he wouldn' t give me any great shots this night. You can see thought that he is probablly 80% white. The footage I took tonight is much better. This is the one that appears to be a button buck. Mabye next year he will have a rack on him. :D

Pretty awsome :D Let me know what you guys think :D

highcountry13,

Yes, this is all farm country Pennsylvania. I live in South Western part of the state, Indiana County. The area these bucks were on is surrounded in farms and most of the property around it is posted. Not anti-hunters, just people who were sick of everyone just comming without permission. Alot of these people will give you permission to hunt on the land if you just ask them kindly.

Where exactly is it that you hunt, and do you need a hunting partner.[8D]

Really,if the gene pool has started, the odds just get better.I would quess that they are all related, how close are the spots that you saw them in relation to each other?

I have 2 friends that killed albino yearlings in consecutive years from the same stand. There is no doubt that these dear came out of the same gene pool. This particular area is known for albinos. There have been several nice albino deer killed in this area.

I' m thinking that there must be a pretty cool looking buck running around with the albino/piebald gene thats spreading his genes around. Either that or a big doe. I' ve heard of this before where one albino or piebald will produce the same offspring causing a whole bunch of piebalds in one general area. If you have at least three that are close in age I' m guessing it' s a buck thats passing the gene on.

Hey guys,

Don' t need a hunting partner, and the location is secret :D

The picture of the top one was taken about two miles from where I filmed the second one. The bottom one is the one with the piebald mother.

I really can' t wait to see this place in a couple years. I am just getting pumped up thinking about it. These deer have areas that they are safe in, except for the deer in the bottom, and even then, the only people hunting that property, or even close to that area, are my best friend and I.

I will take that mother piebald this season if she ever comes in close. She is a BIG fat doe. :D That little one is safe though. This field is in the middle of no-where. Nobody ever travles the road, and these deer are located in a field that is in-between two houses. They are safe. I am just not going to tell anyone around here about these deer because I don' t want anyone telling some idiot poacher about them.

I' ll bet that the odds of a night like tonight are smaller than winning the lottery. Most people go a life-time without seeing a piebald, and in one night, I see 3. :D Maybe I will have to pick up a lottery ticket tommorow cause I am feeling VERY lucky.:D

You are living a dream my man! :)

I remember someone on here last year killed a beautiful piebald buck. He was contemplating getting a full body mount but was concerned that he couldn' t afford it. The photo of that deer was just gorgeous. I hope he was able to do the mount, that buck was a thing of beauty. Maybe you can do the same.

Good luck!!
