RE: making a choice?

Bullsi, I know how you feel and have been tempted to carry my bow during rifle season (that' s legal here but not visaversa. ) However, I agree with the consensus that the mindset of bowhunting would be degraded if I carried a rifle during bow season.

RE: making a choice?

In MO., it is legal to use a bow during gun season. My regular gun stand is large enough to take both and I have done so before. Like others said, it is one more factor that you will have to think about when a deer is spotted. My gun stand is located in a spot where I will see deer at least 70 yds out. Sometimes, they will walk under or near my stand. This gives me at least a few seconds to decide what weapon to use if any. I have also used a pistol and a bow combo during our gun season as well. There is definetely more to pack in when you take both and sometimes that hassle has led me to take one or the other instead of both.

Do any of you take both or just lay the bow down when gun season kicks in?
Just a note, it is legal here (WA) to use bow during gun season.

Ditto what others said. Just choose one weapon. But if you don' t mind the hassle, bring both.

RE: making a choice?

like most of the others, its illegal here in WV as well. I usually find myself bow hunting all the way through.
First of all, the county that I grew up in was a bowhunt only county. And second of all, even though I have access to ample gun hunting territory, I' d rather go back to my hometown where I have access to 327acres that only me, and a couple of my buddies hunt.
And besides, gun hunting is nowhere near as appealing as bow hunting. Theres just something about bowhunting that gets me going. Theres nothing like having that monster of a buck right under you. He' s so close you can actually feel his presence. You can see his breath, and the water dripping off his mouth. The frost on his back even. You close your mouth because you think hes going to hear your heart beat!!:) You know that just one wrong move, and its over!! THAT, my friend, is hunting!!;)
