RE: deer calls
A snort-wheeze is a very easy call to duplicate by mouth and I would say one call that most hunters have heard in the wild;)! It is done for 2 reasons one to warn others and second to try and pick up the scent of what the deer thinks is foreign but can' t smell or determine. Similar to the foot stomp. I have snorted back at deer and the reaction varies, from nothing, to bolt, to settling back into their routine. I say you should save your money and just try to duplicate the next time you hear that aweful SNORT!!!! I can' t recall where the snort has ever bought me a shot opportunity, it has settled the woods but more often than not it is the start of nothing good to happen, similar to the foot stomp...my only hope is I can some how minimize the damage by producing a snort or shutting up hoping he/she will hit the road quickly[:o]

RE: deer calls
yeah right! try it look at what happened last week to primos crew a huge 10 steps almost range he does the same dumb thing almost all guys do makes the human want to be deer ! and the deer spookes! then he looks at the camera and says why did i do such a dumb thing! get a good call and learn how to use it! remember deer are social and are very soft sounding in the wild and more deer are scared off by the big deep grunts from most tubes! learn what tones to use in which season! and why they work well for bringin in the deer! dont be cheap and try the mouth trick yes it may work once in awhile! but i bet you scare more the you bring in

RE: deer calls
Where did I say give up your grunts and go by mouth. All I said was a snort is easy to duplicate by mouth. I related my experience on the snort call and feel it is basically a waste of money. If you want to see what a snort does try it before you buy! I never said don' t use a grunt tube and call only by mouth. Personally I use a grunt tube and all other calls (bleats, fawn bawls, snorts and moose calls I due by mouth) I also grunt by mouth to stop a deer as I have found it useless to try and fidigit for my grunt tube when a deer is right on top of me, a " hey or whistle" will work the same! I agree that some don' t know the difference in tone or what calls mean, hence why a lot say they don' t work. I am not one of those people I know what, when and how to produce all my calls. If I didn' t I won' t use it...plain and simple.
I don' t rely on TV or Ads to what call I use, only on my personal experience. As such pretty hard to believe somebody who doesn' t know a thing about my calling or hunting can pass judgement based on a primos show...very nice[:o] I never said your calling suggestions doesn' t hold water but where did the poster ask about grunts????? I think I read his post clearly he was asking about snort-wheeze calls not grunt tubes!!!!! Just curious how the grunt even got into this conversation...other than your pet peeve reply!!!!!! Are you suggesting when a deer snort or wheezes at you...you grunt back?? Have you tried to snort back with either a commercial or mouth call? Again just curious how this all pertains to his question about snort calls? Have a good night and season:D |
RE: deer calls
BowTech has a really nice grunt call with an extendable tube that really sounds good. I' ve been using a grunt call since about ' 78 when I first tried to immitate the sounds I heard a buck was making. It worked!! He came right to me and it was early in the season, been grunting ever since. The BowTech call sounds great to my ears:D

A snort-wheeze is a very easy call to duplicate by mouth and I would say one call that most hunters have heard in the wild The Snort on the other hand is the common " danger - you are busted" call we all hear.;) Atleast thats how I know it to be. |
