What Bow?????

So ive been hunting for three years. When i first started i bought a cheep bow and it gets the jb done but i need a new one. What would you suggest. I want a compound bow with a 70 pound draw weight and im 19 years old so what would fit me best. Ive thought about PSE and Mathews but which one specificly is a good bow for whitetail deer hunting?

find a family owned bow shop or a professional one, thats where i have found to find the most intelligent people about hunting/bowhunting. one time i went to dicks to get an arrow replacement and an old lady told me to shoot aluminums for practice and hunt with carbons:eek2:! i just said no thanks and walked out.

You ask a question like this, and some will tell you to buy this bow, or that bow. Which is natural, because most love their bows. There are alot of great bows on the market right now. You really can't go wrong with any the brands. The competition amongst manufacturers is so high, its brought out the best in most all them.
So what I suggest is go to anyplace you can around you, Bass Pro, and Gander like said. Shoot different models, and brands. My first thing is how does the grip feel in my hand. You'll find thats where alot of difference is. Then I like to check a bows balance. Hold it out , and see how it steadies in hand, if tilts forward or back. Then I just look at the bow overall, how vertical to limbs is the string, the clearance on bow shelf. Look down it like where arrow should sit. Just those types little things. Then of course the specs: Length, brace height, draw weight, adjustable draw lengths, single or dual- binary cam system. Of course ask to shoot it, see how it feels. Any vibrations at shot. Then make your pick.

This was very helpful thanks so is there any bow company that i should really avoid. A company that just makes junk.

So tell me more about hoyt ive heard of them alot just never seen one or shot one. Why do you like the bow whats great about it.

MeanV2 02-05-2011 09:25 AM

Shoot all the Bows you can get your hands on! Shoot them long enough to let the Bow choose you.

There are several solid choices out there Hoyt being one. Maitland is an up and comer. If you can get your hands on one shoot it!

Rob is a perfectionist! I look for great things from them over the coming years.

For your price range, the new BowTech Assasian would be an awesome choice! You'd also still have money left to buy arrows and accessories!

What State are You located in Dano?We have several Private Owned Archery Shops around here in Missouri that I would reccomend going to,they usually let You shot several of their brands they carry and give some great tips and info on taking care of their Bows!

As a few mentioned I would try shooting as many Bows as possible to see which ones You like the best, the PSE and Matthews are good choices and they both seem to have some really nice and fast shooting bows!Another one to consider is Elite Archery, they carry the "Judge" and the Z28 just to name a few.

Dano879 02-18-2011 05:30 AM

i am gonna have to check that out. Im gonna have to see where a dealer is near me. Thanks alot

I live in Cincinnati Ohio well north of cincy but you get the point. I wish i lived in Missouri ive been out there and you have some great land. Where i live farms are turning into a bunch of houses. but thats slowed down since the need for houses went down.

If i was you id try both Hoyt and Mathews, Ive got an old Hoyt Viper 2 and im gonna move up this summer to a Mathews XLR8. Regardless what you get im sure you will be happy, just about all of the major brands make great bows now. Hoyt, Mathews, Quest, PSE, ect...

SecondChance 02-21-2011 10:05 PM

Dano, I sent you a PM. Check it out!!!

Don't pic two companys go to the bow shop and shoot several different bows. Finding the perfect bow is like finding a perfect shoe they feel different to different people. Most important thing is compfort and ease of the cams. If your bow works for you now then weight untill you have a cople hundred more dollars and shoot some high end bows to. I shot a Jennings carbon extream for quite a while and it was one of the first dual cam bows ever. I was looking for a new bow in 2006 and found my special order 80# bowtech allegence. I love it but have to say the mathewes switchback was smoother yet the bowtech felt better in my hand.

I have a 09 admiral that I am thinking of parting with for 650

Ky Boy 33 02-22-2011 03:15 PM

What bow?

Check out Target World around Sharonville off I-75. You could also check on several manufacturer's web sites and see what is available near you. There are several pro shops that will be more than happy to help, I believe.

PY Antlers 02-28-2011 09:09 AM

Mathews Z7 without question!

MidwestArcher 02-28-2011 07:06 PM

Personally would not own a Mathews, but I really like Bowtech, PSE, Hoyt, Elite, and Strother bows.
