Looks like he will scare the heck out of 180. Some of those pictures make him look like he may go mid 80s. Age is impossible to say.

I'm thinking he'll be pushing 180's too.

Mature

Well he was definetly a mature looking deer .
I,d guess 4 to 5 yrs old .
Not the greatest at scoring maybe high 160,s but he is a dandy .
So how did the guy prove he shot it ??
Did he say how long ago he had shot it and with what ?
Maybe he just wanted it because of its rack ??
I,d tell him he at least needs to help you look for yours now . LOL.
Hope you locate your buck .

so uhhhhh..christine....ever find your buck yet, and are we gonna get age and score outta this deal?

travis_ranger2000 01-21-2011 10:45 AM

I'm going to guess 5 yrs old, and 169 net and 178 gross. I have always been told if the buck has no ring at the base of rack he is fully matured, a buck that still has a ring still has some growing?

HNI_Christine 01-21-2011 05:14 PM

The buck grossed 182". It was 6.5 years old.

A few parting pics...

When the guy rattled off some measurements the thing that I remember is that it's main beams were longer than they looked. The buck also has a lot more mass than it looks in these photos.

As a 6.5 y.o. buck, his body/head (what was left of it) was pretty massive. The neighbors had trailcam photos of this buck and they belived it would have actually scored better the year before. In fact they thought (based on the photos) that the buck was older.

Both Deb and I guessed the buck would have been in the upper 160's or low 170's. :)

That makes me think the buck I deep sixed might be much better than the 140's that I originally thought. And since I may never see him again and you guys don't know the difference.. Heck, maybe he was in the 180's too. :p ha.

I wish I had pictures of a 156" eight point a friend of mine shot. Talk about a deceptive deer. It's main beams nearly touched at the tips.

The river is still up and now 3/4 of it is iced over. Very dangerous. Just a little over a week ago a guy drown in the river when his canoe tipped. I want to recover whatever is left of my buck, but I don't want to die attempting to do so.
:(
