If you have seen buck fights answer this?
What would you say the buck to doe ratio in the areas you have seen buck fights, or even sparring?

Taz.
In over 20 years of bowhunting, I' ve seen countless occassions where bucks have fought or light sparred....and as everyone knows, our buck to doe ratio is way out of whack. I' d imagine the fights would get more intense in a high buck to doe ratio where bucks must battle for the affections of a doe. That' s one reason rattling only works on occassion in my area of PA |

I don' t know what the ratio is, but I would say there are more does around here than bucks. There are definitely more young bucks than older ones. They get hunted relentlessly for almost five months out of the year and anything with horns gets shot, so most of them don' t make it long.

For light sparring and pushing around I don' t think the ratio matters much. Its when the ratio drops and you have more older bucks is when you see the big fights. Rattling in PA is sparse in most places, and I think mostly when a buck comes in its out of natural curiosity than anything.

RE: If you have seen buck fights answer this?
I have witnessed many buck fights and sparring matches i while bow hunting. If you know ANYTHING about hunting in west virginia you know that our buck to doe ratio is the worst around. There is no action to help it either. The ratio is bad here and i see many buck fights. I dont know if this has anything to do with it or not but i see alot of them fight around food areas. Will this have anything to do with it or is this just where they meet at?

IMO , the more you sit out there during the entire rut phase the better chances you' ll have of seeing some action. Try sitting out there from dusk till dawn the two week period before prime rut. Before I started hunting the entire day I had never wittnessed it (my first 15 years or so of hunting) , only heard it a couple times. |

Here are some personally contrived facts that can affect how many times a person has sighted or heard bucks sparring or fighting.
" Not all altercations always occur near your stand or while you are in your stand. Bucks do not sell tickets and assemble in a particular coliseum at certain scheduled times to do battle." :D http://www.hunting101.com/biggame/no...tetails007.htm |
