RE: bowhunting turkeys??
Although I've taken three with a bow, they've all been during deer season. If I was going after solely turkeys, I think I'd get a blind, like the Double Bull.

RE: bowhunting turkeys??
ill give a couple tips, they might help. One is, make sure you put a washer behind your broadhead so you wont go all the way through the turkey, cabelas and bass pro also carry stoppers which does the same thing but they have prongs which cause lesses drag on your arrow. Another is try to always use a diaphragm(? on spelling) call(you may do this anyway, but this allows you to keep your hands free for your bow and release), like MQ1shooter and Two beards said, its good to hunt from blinds, i dont but thats because im to lazy to carry one, lol, i usually just go to my spot and make a blind outta stuff. Decoys really really help. This is what i try to do when i turkey hunt. Its mostly stuff you probably allready know, but i hope it helps anyway.:-)

If you dont have a blind for some reason the two tree method works to some extent get behind one to help conceal your draw and have the other behind you to break up your outline. I use decoys for two purposes one to bring in birds the other is to mark yardage. I will agree with the mouth diaphram calls its hard enough not to get busted making draw much less playing with a slate or box call. If you can aford it get a good blind. double bull seems to be about the best

RE: bowhunting turkeys??
pratice on a turkey decoy,so you know where to hit the real bird.
I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry. |
RE: bowhunting turkeys??
Master a mouth call. The most important call a bowhunter can utilize on a wary tom. Also as the others have mentioned, buy a blind. I used a Double Bull T5 this season but a guy doesn't have to spend that much to fool a bird.I've even had good luck from the Underbrush Bowhunter Blind. Also, remember to use a few decoys set about 10 yards in front of you to insure a point-blank shot. One more final tip is to use a mech broadhead, penetration isn't a concern and you want to be able to do as much damage as you possibly can.Good luck and good shootin'
