Scent lock camo?
 

I asked this in a differant forum and got no responses so I' ll try it here.

I know several companies make scent lok type cloths. Are they all basically the same or is one head and shoulders above the rest? I' m in need of some new camo and would like your opinions. I' ve pretty much decided on the New Mossy Oak Break Up pattern but need to know what brand of scent control I should use.

Their are a lot of different opinions on scent control clothing. I spend a great deal of time hunting hogs. A hogs ability to scent you far exceeds a deers ability, therefore I live and die by my scent control. I always hunt in my scent lok clothing along with other scent control measures and have experienced great success. I never go into the woods without them on.

I have Sent Lok also. You can fart all you want and never catch a wiff of it!

I have heard good things about most brands. I think it comes down to the fabric/insulation amount/fit/comfort rather than the the sent control properties.

I use Cabela' s Scent Pro. It is an under garment suit and is very soft and comfortable. I like the under garment, because then I can use it in early season with a light camo cover suit, or late season and my woolies are used.

I have scent-lok and used it for 3 seasons now. I love it. I don' t think its totally full proof like anything else. But its a tool that can be used to your advantage if used correctly. From my understanding Scent-lok, and Scent-Blocker are made by the same company!

I am trying Supprescent by Goretex. Goretex says their version will not wash out. Scent-Lok and Scent Blocker will lose their effectiveness over time, especially with additional washings. Don' t know how true this is but even Scent-Lok admits this on their own website.

Just bought a Scent-Blocker Plus suit myself...can' t wait to see the results. Anything to get that little extra advantage over our four-legged friends.

I' m interested in hearing about the different brands also. I' d like to get some eventually as well. Which seem to be the quietest? From what I' ve gathered, they all seem to work fairly well, so to me comfort and quietness would be my deciding factor.

I' ve been using Scent-loc for a couple years now, and deffinately have seen a difference. Check out this months issue of Deer and Deer Hunting Magazine. There is a good article about scent control clothing and scent control sprays, detergents, etc etc.

I`ve used Scent-Blocker Plus and I`ve shot one relaxed deer at 1 yard directly below my stand. I`ve also taken a moose wearing it but the wind was in my favour.

I' ve mentioned many times on these forums that I do not believe it to be effective, at least not long term - just like the article says.

I use activated carbon in my business and it must be replaced very frequently (once a week in our application). It also does nothing for any exposed body parts or your breath, which is probably a hundred times more odorous than most people' s bodies.

Corey006, thanks for the link. I' ve wondered about the length of effectiveness of the carbon. I' ve had an aquarium most of my life and use the activated carbon in them but have to change it frequently. Interesting!!!

Wonder if a guy just bought regular camo and used the activated carbon spray each time he went out? That way you' d have a fresh dose of it on wouldn' t you?

I' ve used carbon clothing for years , and it does work . Straightarrow is correct about having to replace it , although the carbon in hunting clothing may be processed differently than what he uses at work . I wear surplus US Army chemical protection suits that I get for $15 at Sportsmans Guide when the weather is cold enough . At that price they are pretty much disposable . Besides reducing my scent , they are very toasty since loose carbon is an excellent insulator . You can wear them for days , then give them a soaking in Sportwash to freshen them a bit . Dispose of them after 2 weeks , or donate them to a local clothing bank , poor folks hunt too . They are also carrying Ab-Scent long underwear in their Guide Gear brand for 19.95 per piece , and they even have a balaclava for $9.95 .

Rack , considering your fondness for crosswind approaches to bedding areas it surprises me that you don' t care for them . I know you don' t use cover scents , but your opinion of carbon suits is rather odd . Playing the wind doesn' t always work either , and a carbon or other scent suppression tactic seems like something you would support . PS: my bowhunting cousin will be breaking me in on a 45# recurve so that I can get a feel for it , although I won' t be taking one into the woods until much later . Gotta practice , practice , practice first ! He' s doing this in exchange for trying out my crossbow . ;)

Let me say this......If you' re a serious bowhunter and you' ve spent more than 30 days in a stand in the last two years.....can you honestly say that you have not been busted by a whitetail? I can! I have been using Scentlok and Scentblocker clothing for the last two years and I have not been busted once. I am not gonna sit hear and try to make you believe it all had to do with the suits (it doesn' t). If you are a smart hunter and you use the wind and take care of your gear (washing clothes, using scentfree deodorant, and do not put clothing on until you are hunting) you will be a more successful hunter. I am so confident with my scentlok clothing that I hunted a particular stand last year regardless of what the wind was doing and killed an 8 pointer, killed two does and missed a nice 10 point with ALL of them standing directly down wind (my stand was approx. 18 ft off the ground). The stuff works! It may not keep you 100% scentfree, but it will definetly help even the odds a little in the ole nose category. Remember the old saying " take care of what takes care of you" . This is soo true. A lot of guys I know buy the stuff and wander why it doesn' t work! They also wear it to the breakfast table in the morning, they fill up their gas tanks on the way to their hunting camps, they sit around all night drinking beer and telling stories all night in front of a camp fire! The suits may keep your odor from leaving the inside, but it' s not magical and it will not keep contaminants from smelling on the outside. Buy it and you' ll love it and swear by it!

DaleJ....great post. The nose of a whitetail is THEEEE most intense defense mechanism they have. Again, you need to use the old noodle a little too, like general odor control (gas station, eating, wearing in the truck etc). A tool such as this is much more beneficial that all of the hype you read about getting 2 more feet per second out of the super duper Mathews (or whatever) bow.

I arrowed a nice 10 point last year no more than 8 yards from my tree as the wind was blowing from every direction imaginable.

I' ve had deer walk to within feet of me while wearing mine , and I was on the ground with the wind in THEIR favor . Nothing will prevent the smart ones from busting you , but insurance doesn' t hurt .

Hey Rack-attack did you know that a swiss watch maker designed the digital watch and they all laughed and said it will never work or sell. Some times you have to think outside the box. By the way, is the world really flat?
