My observations on Blazer vanes

I have been shooting broadheads almost exclusively for the past month in preparation for opening day. I was being pretty inconsistant and I really couldn't figure out why. I finally noticed the other day the differences in my Blazer vanes was my problem. I shoot Slick-Trick Magnums out of a Bowtech Captain on CE Maxima Hunters. Here are my observations.

Blazer Twisters, absolutely no rhyme or reason where the arrows would go or the angle they hit the target. Craziness!

Blazer Quick-Spin, All arrows hit four inches right and four inches low, when compared with my field points.

Just straight Blazers (factory fletched) Broadheads hit right with my field points.

Sometimes I'm kinda thick-headed, according to my wife, so it took me a little while to completely fiqure this out. I'd like to know if any of you guys have had a similar situation. I mean with the arrows, not with your wife thinking you're thick-headed.

Blessings.....Pastorjim

That's interesting. I wasn't grouping broadheads well with my blazer vanes so I switched to 4 inch feathers and am now cutting the feathers off of my other arrows when I shoot broadheads

I shoot 3" or 4" regular quickspins, not blazers, and mine group pretty well. I've never gotten into the blazer vanes yet. That's interesting to know though.

I've never had any problems nor do I know anyone who has had problems with the regular blazers I know guys who fletch their own and they use the helix jig aswell and don't have any problems, interesting though that you did. Maybe. Its your bow or your shooting style or maybe its something totally different I have no idea.

My blazer vanes fly just fine with Muzzy 100 grains. I use a drop rest though. Are you using whisker biscuit? I would look for contact at your rest.

Whenever it's a ver erratic pattern, I always look first to fletching contact, then to something i'm doing in my follow-through. With the higher profle of the Blazers, the contact issues can come about where there used to be no issue with a standard vane. It's odd that one style of Blazer would be so different though. The Quickspin ones do slow your arrow down SLIGHTLY, which would not account for 4" of drop though IMO. Hard to say, but at least you've gotten it ironed out!
