sticking up for pope&young!

First of Id like to give my apology to everyone about the crossbow thread im new to this form and didnt know better. but it was fun watching from the side lines. And im glad that u have the same passion for bow hunting as I do but with different opinions. But my next question maybe as bad.So go grab some popcorn an a coke cause here we go.Why do I read so much bashing on the pope&young club?If it wasnt for Dr.Saxton an Aruther Pope bow hunting would not be what it is today(lets not forget our history)By them forming the club and there exploits in the 60s it brought back the forgotten sport of bow hunting. It showed how exciting and challenging it was and the BIRTH of all the clubs-organization an hunters of today.Their conservation programs-game management programs-discover camp for kids-youth awareness programs and grants ($400.000 in the last 6yrs) has done more for this sport than any other organization-club-or hunter out there. Its their club and have the right to set their rules and guide lines.I would be Proud and honored to be in their record books, and thats why I keep my bow pope&young legal and hunt ethically. To hunt ethically is a state of mind and soul and pride.

And rack-attack thanks for th tip on the Gold tip xt 7595s they shoot great with my high poundge bow.:)

Just for the record, Saxton Pope and Art Young did not form the Pope and Young Club. They were gone long before, Pope dying from pnuemonia in 1926 and Young dying from a ruptured appendix in 1935. Pope and Young Club was formed in 1957 and incorporated in 1963. It was named after the two gentlemen in honor of all they' d done to popularize hunting with bow and arrow.

yea I no. I think the bad statements is because they dont know the history or roots of bow hunting. And what the club has done in the past.

I really don' t see a lot of " bashing" of P&Y. Myself and others have some disagreements with some of their rules, namely the let-off limitation. That does not mean that those of us who think its a dumb issue to draw the line on think P&Y is not a worthy organization. You can strongly disagree on an issue and still support the organization, whether we' re talking about P&Y, a political party, a church, or the Boy Scouts.

I do get a little tired of the references I see that seem to imply that anyone who disagrees with P&Y, or any hunting organization or sportsman is somehow supporting the anti' s. Hey, we can disagree on an issue or two but still support what the main emphasis is.

Heck, who here agrees with their spouse on every issue?

;)

My problem with P&Y is a little different than some(I think). In years past, the records were by guys that worked hard and hunted hard. Today if you want a record, just pay your money and the guy on the game ranch will tell you when to shoot. I feel for the guys that held all the old records, as they erned their trophy and today, it only takes money. There should be a seperate P&Y catagory for guided or raised trophys. I am offically off my soap box now. Don

DoninVA, I may be wrong here, but I don`t think much has changed from the " old" days.

The major difference now is that these guys who hunt constantly all over the globe video tape it for us to see.

How many records does Fred Bear have? Was he a regular working Joe, like us?
How about Herb Klein...he has more entries in B&C than any other hunter, and he died in 1974. Great guy, no doubt. Obviously wealthy enough to globetrot non stop in pursuit of big game.

I know if I hit that dang power ball lotto, you guys will be talking about me! Cause I`ll be adding some critters to P&Y in rapid fashion.;)

Doninva, I raised this question on another forum, with reguards to my P&Y bucks
and bucks of the same caliber, that were harvested in an enclosure, P&Y and B&C
only except ( fair chase ) animals, I have nothing against fence hunting, personal
choice, but would make a wild harvested animal less special no mater what the size, :D
