Broadhead Selection

I' m an inexperianced bowhunter and I need some advice. I was lucky enough to draw a Moose permit for this winter and I' d like help in deciding which type of broadhead to use. I' ve been hearing that the mechanical broadheads are worth considering. I shoot a Hoyt Raptor compound set at about 72lbs draw.

Thanks

If I were to hunt moose I wouldn' t consider a mechanical, it is just to risky for a hunt of a lifetime. Could they work? Certainly, but why take a chance. You could kill a moose with a .22 also, it just wouldn' t be the caliber of choice. The same principle loosely applied goes for broadheads.

Some quality heads that I could recommend in no particular order are Rocky Mountain titaniums, Muzzy, Montec G5, Steel Force, Magnus, and Wasp. These heads are proven winners.

Antler pretty much stole my thunder! I agree though, my personal three favorites are the Magnus stinger 4 blade 100 grn, Muzzy 4 blade 100 grn and the G5 Monotec. Of course with a Rocky mountain Ti 100 or Wasp sst would be just fine with me as well. I would not use any mechanical on moose!

I too was debating whether or not to use mechanicals for Moose and eventually decided to go with a " cut on contact" fixed head. You probably have enough KE to use some mechanicals BUT you are better off with a fixed head.
