what camo?

i am trying to decide whether if i should get realtree AP mossey oak new break up or veritgo i hunt 99 percent out of tree stands so i was going to go with the veritgo. what do y'all think?

BIGBUCK17 09-14-2010 10:53 PM

just go with the camo pattern that looks like the type of woods you hunt in. Really any one of those are good choices so you could just go with the one that looks best to you.

Most camo is more effective at catching the hunters "eye" than really hiding him. I like large open patterns and those with a lot of gray. Mossy oak tree stand is good, asat, cabelas outfitter are some good examples. They vertigo pattern also looks really good as it has a lot of white along with traditional patterns, so it will probably work best at hiding you than the others.

crazyman11591 09-15-2010 03:43 AM

i personally like realtree ap it works for me

GMMAT 09-15-2010 03:52 AM

Between those two...............I'd buy whatever was on sale.

byg 09-15-2010 06:17 AM

Like 5 said, large open patterns I really like predator fall grey, you will become part of the skyline in the tree, ASAT is good also. I dont care for camo that has pictures of tree limbs and leaves on it. Makes you turn into a blob, open patterns will break your silehoute(sp)up..my .02 cents

patgrizzlyhunter 09-15-2010 07:20 AM

i would have to say give ASAT a look

They all work. Your movement is the biggest key. I had elk at 3 feet to 10 yards multiple times last week and I have a couple different patterns on. they looked right at me and went back to feeding if I didn't move. I think I had Realtree Hardwoods and AP.

YooperMike 09-15-2010 08:25 AM

I like MO Treestand, and I wear a lot of AP as well. Lighter(color), more open patterns are generally a little more effective from a treestand.

jermelott 09-15-2010 08:37 AM

I like AP and MO treestand. I didnt like vertigo because of the white. When its just before you cant see anymore, the deer deer can pick up on the white and especially if the white is moving. I actually liked the feel and fit of the vertigo the best, but because of what ive heard from others, didnt end up getting it because of the colors.

MOhunter46 09-15-2010 10:09 AM

Id suggest either asat or predator.

crenshaw 09-15-2010 10:32 AM

Optifade, Natgear or Outfitter Camo by Cabelas. I have had better sucess with all those patterns then any of the major players (RT and MO).

I didn't even give that a thought, but your on to something.

I like realtree and MO, but I also try and hide behind the tree I'm in. Brother has taken picks of me on stand before. In one I had a white sling on a gun (all there was), it stood out like a sore thumb. If you didn't know I was there you'd be pressed to pick me out.

Have you looked into ultimate camo I'd say for sure, that I would reccommend that to anyone looking for something to bowhunt with. I bought it and haven't ever looked back. Plus the customer service is the best I've ever had anywhere.

Ryan.

pa_yote_hunter 12-09-2010 05:31 AM

Like someone mentioned before I would go with whats on sale between those two. I would look into natural gear, predator, or ultimate camo.

Hoytail Hunter 12-10-2010 10:01 AM

I haven't had any personal experience with the others mentioned here but i have with ASAT. On one ocassion I had a mature buck looking right at me as I was in a bare tree with no cover. The buck seemed a little concerned but not enough to spook or even be cautious enough not to get stuck with an arrow at 25yds. He's on my wall now.

Another time, a 2 1/2 yr buck came in from a direction i did not expect and i found myself being stared at at 15yds while only 6ft up the tree. Once again, i was out in the open with no cover. That guy is also on my wall.

What I haven't tried is sitting on the ground and trying to accomplish this same thing with ASAT.

The great debate. Lots of good patterns out there, like some of the guys said, use what your hunting situation is. Some work better as a skyline pattern, some work better straight on like UltimateCamo, some look good on a shelf in a store as eye candy, but put some these pattern in a sepia tone as deer see in a situation where youre hunting and you may be suprised at what it looks like. Are you hunting on the ground, are you hunting out a tree, a blind, etc... Im a little biased of course : )

Deer dont see colors like humans do, we see in trichromatic vision, deer see in dichromatic, we have 3 cones, they have 2 cones. I think your most important hunting friend is scent/wind, movement, then camo.

Its like trying to hide this camera but bigger
