Preferred food
 

Have not hunted around crops much in the past but now have the opportunity to. I was wondering what deer usually eat most in October when they have many choices. The choices are corn, soybeans, alfalfa, clover, or acorns. From every ones experience what would be their preferred food?

Its hard to pick one cuz the deer here love all of those choices and you cant really go wrong with any of em. Just depends on if ur corn and soybean fields are gonna be standing and which one of the fields has the best cover around it. I know deer here love all of those choices

Like Buckmaster said, the deer love them all. The corn and soybeans would have to be the first too places I would hunt. But it also depends on how plentiful the acorn are. Thats a tough decision, glad I don't have to make it.... lol...

yeah thats what i was thinking, i know deer love all these choices and if there was only one of them and a limited amount thats where the deer would be. Corn is being cut now so that will be out of the picture in October. Seems like their top choices right now are alfalfa and acorns.

in my part of the world, they will browse the acorns in the woods off and on through the day, then feed in the chopped cornfields at night.

apples trump them both, though they are usually gone by the time the corn is cut and the acorns drop.

the alfalfa and clover ain't no slouch either though.

With those kind of food sources around like that, there should be some big deer there with some nice bone.

Scout, hang a couple different stands, & hunt to see what you find. All good sources.
