Do you hunt water crossings? If so has it been succesful for you.

the place i hunt has two or three creeks goin thru it so its hard not to hunt near a water crossing. for me it has been about like other trails, unless its heading to the bed or to the grub then its just hitting it at the right time.

my favorite place to hunt is in a tree that overhangs a creek that runs right smack thru their beddin thicket

i hunt near in a river area and i usually hang my stand within range of the crossing there... last season i had a herd of nine deer cross at once the herd had three bucks in it... had a shot at a six pointer but i missed... when i' m in the stand i usually see lots of deer cross the river so i think it works.

i like to hunt dried up creek beds or near small creeks. the deer love to follow them for some reason.

do deer seem to mind crossing water that they actually have to swim in?? like over 3-4 feet?

My best stand is running along a small creek bed. There are 3 trails crossing the creek within around 200yrds(prob. bec. the banks are pretty high everywhere else). And I can see all of them from my stand. Two of them being within 30yrds. All three cross, then end up intersecting into one major trail. I have had great success from this stand(altho last year was a might slow). I originally found the stand while out squirrel hunting one evening just before dark....I had yet to fire at a squirrel, when a 150 class buck came in, made a monster size rub, walked within 45yrds of me, and left. There was nothing I could do. The next chance I got, I went in and hung my stand and I have hunted it every year since. I never did see him again, but I found one hell of a spot. I' ve killed some good bucks there, and I hunted a nice 8-piont in the area for a few years, but I found him dead this summer :(. I just hope another moved in and took his place. Sorry to ramble on but I am now a firm believer in these crossings, exspecially if you can find several running into one trail (or the opposite) like I did.

in response to kyle_hoyt' s quest. I' ve never hunted near deep water, but that did remind me of a story.

I was camping down on the New River last summer, when I spoted some deer all the way on the other side. This was a wide, deep part of the river, but we watched as a doe came in behind the group. No lie....see walked down to the water, swam all the way across(which took quite a few minutes), and walked right thru our camp site, about 25yrds from were my buddy and I were setting!! She acted like we weren' t even there....until my buddy for some reason decided to stan up and walk toward her. No sooner than he stood up she was gone. I' ve never seen anything like it until that moment.

i see them swim the river next to my hunting ground all the time water is anywhere from five to fifeteen feet deep right in this area
