Rests

What are the best rests?

my7pointmonster 06-23-2010 01:02 PM

IMO get a QAD Ultra rest.

Full containment drop away.

Ryan.

Im not sure which is best but I know the limbdrivers are one of the easiest to set up by yourself.

SeraphHHC 06-23-2010 02:52 PM

Love my limbdriver. I have used a few rest and my favorite is LD. Would recommend u give it a look.

Really depends on what bow your shooting. I have a mathews monster 7.0 and use the down force witch is one of the best

I've been a diehard Trophy Taker man since about 2002. I've had either the original or the newer Pronghorn on every bow I've owned since then. I just never thought anything could compare to the simplicity or the brick-sh@thouse toughness of Dan Evans' original design.

That being said, I had my eyes opened earlier this year. When I initially set up my Maxxis 31 in January, I decided to see what all the fuss was about. I put a Q.A.D Ultra Rest HD on and haven't looked back. This thing is tough, quiet and very, very hunter-friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone shopping for a drop-away rest.

I am shooting and prefer the QAD HD (having shot the LD and the Trophy Taker previously).

It offers full containment without the LD limitations which include:

- Not full containment
- The actuating string is about 3x longer than with most drop aways so it is a liability (gets caught on things).
- The attaching method to connect the string to the limbs is inferior - cheap plastic part; cannot be served.
- The string relaxes at full draw and can appear in the sight window.
- The rest is very wide and will not lie flat on the curved sight window shelf of a Bowtech or Elite.

With that said, there are a lot of folks that prefer the LD.

I like the ripcord code red.

On a rest

I'm just happy to have one that works, consistently, and is moderately priced.

When you used a Golden Key prong hunter years ago, and used it effectively, you don't give much mind to the "modern" so called 1st, 2nd or 3rd most favorite.

"Full containment" is for the newbies, who haven't spent hours on the practice archery line.

I use the lower priced QAD.

Lots of quality rests available these days.

For containment rests, you just aren't gonna beat the classic Whicker Biscuit.

For fallaways, some excellent choices are the Ripcord Code Red, the QAD HD and the Limbdriver.

I second that! I love mine!

I don't know what is the best, but I've been using Trophy Taker for years and can afford to buy anything on the market, but T.T. has never let me down so why would I switch now?

Howler 06-29-2010 05:05 AM

Just a heads up, I've got a Ripcord Code Red for sale in the classifieds, and I
ll be lowering the price $5 every few days until someone buys it.....I still like my WB!!

RIStrutStopper 06-29-2010 07:23 AM

I like the QAD Ultra. If you have to let down slowly the launcher arm remains up which is a nice feature.

basementshooter 06-29-2010 02:42 PM

Whisker Biscuit all the way for me. It's quite and my arrows never fall out of the rest..

NM Wind

Out here in the mountains of western New Mexico full containment is the only way to go do to our constant winds. Our normal day is 15 mph to 20 mph sustained winds with gusts to 30 mph with lots of days were the winds are much stronger. The wind gusts can and will pluck the arrow right off a rest that does not have full containment. Since I am going out to the archery range this afternoon I checked the NOAA sight and right now we have 18 mph sustained winds with gusts to 30 mph. Just a normal day.

Also if you are considering an elk hunt in western NM you should consider a full containment rest because our Sept. 1st opening day is also during our monsoon season when thunderstorm build up over the mountains every day starting around noon. The gusts from these storms are in the 35 mph to 50 mph range. You wouldnt want to go home with tag soup because when you got to full draw the wind snatched the arrow off your rest. I've seen it happen, before my age got to the point that guiding wasnt fun anymore I was an archery only elk guide for several years.

As for the full containment rests are for newbies, I've been a die hard tournament archer/bowhunter for 38 years now.
