Can you shoot without sight...

Hi...
it is possible to shoot your bow without a sight (known as "instinctive shooting"), doing so is exceedingly difficult - especially at longer ranges. As such, virtually all modern compound bows are outfitted with some kind of sight.Much like the bead at the end of a shotgun barrel, the bow sight simply helps tell you where your projectile is pointed.

Recurve hunters do it all the time.

Yes it is at limited ranges. Recurve bows don't even have sights.

I've done it all my life. It's not hard if you stay in practice.

i can shoot out to around 25 yards with my compound . bowfiching with no sights has really helped to do this and im good with my recurve to around 30

hy dad shot instinctively for years. He hunted 8 years with a recurve and the last 4 with a compound without a pin sight. He has shot several deer over the years like this. Usually he tops out ta 30 yds.

I think this is a trick question.

I've killed 38 Biggame animals with recurves & no sights. i've posted perfect NFAA animal round with no sights & shot in the 450s with recurves on NFAA field rounds up to & including a 80 yd. walk up. It used to be the LARGEST division in competition & hunting when I started in 1956. Sights started being added & taking over (guessing late 60s). I started my 1st full time Archery shop/lanes in 1968 & remember having to tap & drill bows in my shop for sights as MFG. did not. Bows did not come pre drilled back then.
I've killed several deer at 35 yds. with recurve & a few over that.
I've killed Elk at 35 yds also.
I will be going hog hunting in a few days & will try for my 1st with my compound, release & sight & a 2nd with a 60# 1975 recurve of mine & instinctive. I will also (If drawn) go for Antelope in Aug. & try for a Buck with my compound & all the trinkets & ANY Doe Antelope will be shot at with my recurve.

If you practice you can become very accurate at 35 yds & under & in fact, longer distances. MOST keep their shots hunting at 25 yds & closer BUT THEN, I do the same with my compound.

Some become very proficient shooting instictivly as do some compound shooters become proficient. There are SOME that will NEVER be proficient with any weapon.

Pic is 3 Bow kills-instictive in the 60s.. I killed my 1st Deer in 1958 @ 35 yds. with a 45# recurve & wood Arrow. Complete pass thru & it went 30 yds...
