RE: Running out of information?
Like xibowhunter said, this board is my hunting magazine. I' ve learned, enjoyed, and laughed more on this board than anything else I' ve read. In fact, you could create a magazine by taking threads right off this board and have a great magazine that would be awsome for the poor, computer illiterate hunters left in the world.

RE: Running out of information?
it is true there is only so much to talk about . i have come to the point where the hunting stories about people and there experiances are more enjoyable to read about than reading another fact artical about some rubline or scrape method.

RE: Running out of information?
I like reading this, its like reading a magazine live, some pretty good stuff here, lot from some ole boys who have walked the mile, and then you get some that wishes they could and talks like they have.
I really thinks its great to have a library of knowledge at your finger tips. Enjoy, Bobby ;) |
RE: Running out of information?
They make magazines about hunting?[:o]

RE: Running out of information?
I guess I am luckier than most of you. All the magazines write about whitetails. What more can you say about whitetails that hasn' t been said 1000 times before. I hunt elk and mulies mostly and sometimes can actually learn a trick or two cause no one writes about them much.
I still don' t like reading about the look at me and my big rack I got articles. And this board contains more info than any magazine ever thought about printing. Love this place. |
RE: Running out of information?
I think the magazines are most helpful to new hunters who aren' t already aware of the stuff most of us consider " old hat." When I first got started, I read every magazine I got cover to cover and waited for the next one to come. I still subscribe to a couple, but most of them are still sitting on my end table waiting for me to go through that stack that' s over a year old. That would please my wife! [8D]

RE: Running out of information?
I agree with you guys 100%.I have around 250 bowhunting mags.,going back to the 80' s, so it' s been a while since I have come across some " ground shaking" whitetail hunting tactics.I think for us seasoned bowhunters, whitetailing is pretty " cut and dry" .I think how well you do comes down to how good your hunting area is,,,NOT what bow and arrows you shoot, or what artical you just read.NORE is it the pattern of camo on your back,,,etc.,etc....
I also have over 100 bowhunting tapes,so there' s no point looking for new tactics in that department as well. These days when I look at a new mag.,or bowhunting tape, I' m more interested to see whats " new" in archery tackel,or what bow set up is being used, and how well it worked.Beside, how could you ever get tired of watching some of those guys make those crappy shots, and then find the deer like it was nothing,,,,;) |
RE: Running out of information?
I agree with most. I believe we all have something to learn still...but I doubt it will come from a mag or a show. I still recieve a few mags, and watch plenty of shows...but it' s just out of enjoyment and my love for the sport. I prety much know I won' t be seeing or reading anything I haven' t before....but I still love to seeing the bruisers, it keeps me pumped.

RE: Running out of information?
Specialty magazines fill a need.
For those that are newer to any given sport or hobby they can quickly bring them up to speed on tactics and gear. After you know most of what you are reading in a magazine your interest will naturally wane. I am relatively new to the sport of bowhunting. I' ve only been involved for about 5 years. As time passes, my interest in getting more involved in tuning the bow, and fletching arrows increases. Certain articles have been very helpful. Some not so helpful. Its a learning curve we all go through. As far as equipment goes, it can' t hurt to read a magazine every now and then just to learn before you spend your money on any new stuff. I' ve learned a lot about all of my pastimes and hobbies from some of the magazines. |
