Would like some opinions on a 09 82nd Airborne

I have the oppurtunity to pick one of these up, and I am looking for some opinions. Please help. I know everyone is going to tell me to shoot it first and I have and can shoot it better than my Maxxis 31. But wanting other opinions before I take the leap.

I have been hunting with my 09 82nd for about 9 months now. At 27.5 inch draw length and 60 lbs it produces 275 fps with a 425 grain ACC. Because of the unique suburban opportunities in Northern VA, I have been lucky enough to shoot 11 deer with it. The bow produces extraordinary power and accuracy. However, the valley is very narrow and it will try to run away from you if you creep forward. The rubber stopper came apart but Bowtech sent it to me on warranty. The long ATA has never bothered me but if you're a short ATA guy or you hunt from a ground blind a lot then it could be negative. The Invelvet and improved string stopper are great. It will be my bow for the foreseeable future. Here is a typical quartering away pass thru with Rage2 on a large doe:http://huntingnet.com/forum/bowhunti...on-double.html</p>

I am defenitly not a short axle bow shooter. The bow has 60# limbs on it. Set at 29in draw and is optifade camo. Comes with a trip wire rest and octane stab. Also has some kind of smooth module in it? Looking forward to shooting it. It is replacing My Maxxis 31 that I cannot shoot past 30 yds.

Have you tried a Mathews? No need to rush into anything, take your time and try them all.

There is no smooth mod for the 82nd so maybe ask some questions about that.

Sounds like you would be getting a nice setup. If its anything like my 101st it will be a tack driver. Although it is odd that you are shooing a 6in brace height bow better than you are shooting a 7in brace height bow. I guess the extra ata is helping you. Anyway good luck with what ever you decide.

Got it and love it. This is my first Bowtech bow, and will definitely not be my last. I am definetly gonna have to get some different spined arrows though.

Yeah, mine will show underspined results with .400 spine arrows even thought the charts say .400 good. With 28" shafts and 60lbs, I shoot .340 spined arrows.

Did you sell the Maxxis?

CelticSavage 04-26-2010 06:10 PM

Yeah I sold the Maxxis. I think I may have just fell in love with Bowtech.

LIke was stated above the valley is a little short but if you have good form and hold good back tension the 82nd is a very accurate, quiet, and fast bow.

I Loved mine and it was definitely one of my favorites in 08 & 09.
