You have the weight of your arrow completely wrong. That arrow is weighted at 8.2 gpi. The 400 has to do with the spline strength I believe. So give yourself an 1" on draw your arrow weight is 221 grains with a 100 grain RAGE for a total of 321.

321*290*290/450240 gets you down to 60.03 lbs of ke.

Just saying.

Actually, fishinty.....if you figure 17gr. for an insert...and 24gr. for fletching.....it's over 67FP's.

Spine has nothign to do with it, though. You've got plenty!

Ive got 62 ftlbs pulling 70# at 26" with a 390 gr. arrow. and speed of 265 fps

for some reason i think there should be more but im not complaing. it put a rage through my big buck from last year and buried the arrow. he only went 20 yards and he was out

I had been doing a lot of research in this area recently and found some very helpful websites.
http://bowsite.com/bowsite/features/...tion/index.cfm
http://home.att.net/~sajackson/ballistics.html
http://www.tradgang.com/ashby/Moment...enetration.htm

After doing lots of math and reading these the best conculsion I have is don't worry about KE or any other figure.

Get your Spine correct, your bow tunned and shooting straight, and the most important part is your Broadhead....it needs to be sharper than a razor blade if you want the best success in the field!

Nominee for post of the year there!!!

I agree wholeheartedly. It is fun to run the numbers and have a high ke bow etc but it's really irrelevant if you shoot a bh that is sharp, and not going to soak up ke by opening and catching etc... Spine is also very helpful bc you will lose ke quicker there as well bc the left and right flex will not allow as much transfer of energy.

It was pretty darn cool tho to put a dull 2 blade rage through the shoulder of a doe and have to tug to get the arrow out of the ground. I killed her with my practice head lol. With 97#'s I believe I could have gotten a pass thru with a dull rock haha

This sounds way off. Recheck your measurements.

Why would you even consider using a dull blade period?
