Just putting this out there.
As many of you know I'm in college now, and I have a lot of free time since I'm not from where the school is. So I watch a lot of hunting DVD's and the other week I bought one of the Drury DVD's called Bow Madness TV season 2. Its a great DVD I love the layout of it and its 4 and a half hours long for 15 bucks at gander. Now I'm really not sure why, but it seems that if there are 100 harvests 85-90 of them were harvested with shots that were WELL back. Weather it was a Boar a Buck a Doe Predators, They just seem to have made a DVD that was a ton of bad shots, me and my room mate were watching this going wow... Seriously they put that on their DVD? had any one else noticed their is a decline in quality shots? Granted!!! its a HUGE animal they're shooting and I'd get excited too but geeze... Now on the other end of the spectrum they take kids out a lot and I mean a LOT! Now there is no part of me at all that thinks less of a Child (I think the youngest was 8 and the oldest was 15?) for making a shot on a whitetail thats slightly back I mean I'm by no means trying to say I'm a Pro shooter at all. I've had my fair share of ones that I hit further back than what I had wanted to but These guys are doing this every day of their lives.... Just as a Disclaimer I also bought the Dream season 9 and the Dream season all amateur's and they seem to have about the same Ratio of good to bad shots I just wonder what the deal is, I mean they recover all their animals just the time it would take for some of them to expire is significant. I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed a pattern of this as well? And its like I said Prior to this I realize it happens to everyone. Just why use that hunt for your DVD? Why not use a different hunt with a better placed shot, I'd rather see a good shot on a 120 class buck than a square in the guts shot on a 240 class buck. Just saying.

I am not sure what show it was but I saw this dude that races motorcycles went on this guided hunt and he took a shot and the deer turned and ran back toward them and then down the hill. He was calm and said, that was a little far back but we should be good. With the help of slow motion and dvr, the arrow was stick out of the rear quarter so I would agree that the shot was a little far back. The show sucked. If they are going to show that then admit that you made a bad shot and show some regret or fear for what might happen. He ended up getting the deer but who knows how it ended. I hit one in the rear and I was sick to my stomach. I was lucky to hit the main artery and it did not go far. After that, I really became a passionate archer. I don't think that shot affected that dude at all based on the video. Just speaking my mind...

So would I. But, the general populus is in it for the horn porn (moreso than others). And, as sad as it may seem (to many).....today's hunting atmosphere is one of "the end justifies the means". People will do "whatever".....as long as there's a DVD/mount/story/etc... at the end of the hunt.
The fact is, these guys are being paid to take (in most cases) and above average animal on film, which is not an easy task. Because of that, there are times with good footage is better than a good shot.
I will say one other thing in "their" defense, there are times that because of camera angle the shot will appear worse than what it really is.

I agree with you both, I do agree that the camera angle has a lot to do with it and I agree that these guys have a hard on when they get paid to arrow things, theirs no part of me that is up in arms about that, however.... Why would you use that on your dvd... That's what makes me more upset really. Just like I said though. I'm just putting stuff out there as my opinion.

I could not agree more.

I really dig on the Dream Season show...until I saw a dude take a shot on a deer, they "scouted" from a highway...unloaded their ATV...drove it from the birm to the field...got out, and homeboy shoots at least 65 yards and takes this deer square in the neck, almost as if trying to slit the deer's throat with an arrow...of course, it runs like heck...then you see them hooting and hollering...i am sure hours later in the dark, with their "trophy" and all the dude can say is "what a stalk?"
Are you kiddin' me? I am more and more disappointed with the Drury shows...I think these dudes were from Iowa and one is a cop, he was the "hunter."

There is more than just bad shots placed on deer that are wrong with these types of hunting videos ( if thats what you want to call them ). I could go on and on but in short these videos are a big waste of time all around.
