best way to shoot mechanicals into a block target?

i have one of those mckenzie carbon blocks and have been very pleased with the way it has held up with my shooting field points but i want to shoot some broadheads. i know that is no problem with fixed blades but i shoot the 100 gr. spitfires. can i do this? will it tear up my broadhead. i heard of somepeople who tie their blades together with dentalfloss so that they don' t come open. what do you do.

with my old rockets i would tape em or glue em of course if you glue em you can' t use them for hunting anymore ,just glue one , i heard the dental floss thing works good too !

I tried that, and I guess I couldn' t get the floss tight enough becasue after the third shot or so the shockwave opened anyway. I found out what I wanted to know. I tore up my mckenzie yellow target shooting broadheads into it. They cut the layers all up, now when I shoot it I get yellow layers exploding out of the back.[X(]

Does anyone know how to make a good broadhead target?

I have never seen a target that can hold up to repeated broadhead shots. If you are going to shoot a lot with BH' s you are going to ruin a target.:(

We fill a cardboard box with insulation board. It can be a pain pulling them back out, but it works. We only shoot with one head so that the others stay new.

you can also use a bread tie to keep the blades together. just tear off the insulation.;)

Get a pack of practice blades for the spitfires. They don' t seem to tear the target up much more than a field point.

I' m with RACK.... there is no such thing as a great broadhead target. I splurged and paid somewhere around $85 for the best I could find. It survived 2 years but I doubt I' ll beable to shoot many at it this year. I had to start backing it up with a couple of those $20 thin hard type the first year.

I agree with RA targets especially block, blackhole and other layered targets do not hold up well to broadhead hits!
you would be better off buying a cheapy target for broadheads and keep your good one for practice.
