Regrets?

I was wondering if anybody has any regrets from the 2009 bowhunting season? Equipment, hunting spots, bad trips, missed shots, ect.

RTA47 01-02-2010 04:56 AM

I have no regrets just wished i had made a few better decisions at times on hunting spots.
But thats just hunting and i guess the way it should be?

Everyone i know and hunt with "friends and family" was able to go to there stands, hunt and come back safely to there familys at the end of the day and tell all kinds of hunting storys and such.

No regrets just great memories. Cant wait to do it again.
(Thank you lord).

No regrets for me either, arrowed a really nice buck. If I had to pick one thing tho'. It would be shooting an inch over an antelope at 40 yards. The an hour later making a "12 ring" shot on a prairie dog. How the hell does that happen?? :D

MOhunter46 01-02-2010 05:15 AM

Ive only got one. When that 120" 8-9 pt walked up i wished i would have aimed for 20 yards instead of 25.:o I still feel like an idiot and i dont know what i was thinking,i just thought he was 25 yards i guess.

Not hunting the last 5 weeks of the hunting season. From Thanksgiving morning to the closer today I have not hunted. That is the first time I have ever done that in the past 18 years. My life responsibilities skyrocketed this year.

GregH 01-02-2010 05:29 AM

Nothing too serious, just wish I would have shot one of the bucks I had passed on. Hindsight.....................

AR Bowhunter 01-02-2010 05:41 AM

I shot a decent 9 point on the 10th of Oct. Exactly one month later on the 10th of November shot at another 9 point miss judged the distance. Shot under him about 2 inches. He was bigger than the one I shot in Oct. by a couple inches.

noidurism 01-02-2010 06:00 AM

my only regret was moving about 45 yds. over from the spot i was sitting at(along the top of a ridge) and 20 min. later a huge bodied 9 point walked by the the first spot i was at. would've been a 20 yd. shot with my bow. never seen him again after that! :hit::bash: rule#3 pick a spot and stay!

125py 01-02-2010 06:56 AM

i skimmed the belly of a 155" that a neighbor got during gun season. Should have put the pin higher :(

BigDaddy12t 01-02-2010 08:08 AM

My only regret is that I let too many walk early in the season, and then I ended up not getting one with my bow, but I was lucky enough to get with the ML. I have yet to get anything with my new to me Hoyt, new Easton Axis arrows. I know they better look out next year. I AM shooting something durring the early season.

elkmtngear 01-02-2010 08:38 AM

My biggest regret is not being able to get my daughter in bow range of a shooter for her first archery season. We got close to several spikes, but couldn't put a fork on any of them. She got really excited about seeing those little bucks, and she was shooting well, so I know she is ready.

I'll put her in for a better zone this year, I have a feeling 2010 is going to be a good year for us!

Rob/PA Bowyer 01-02-2010 08:40 AM

I have no regrets in 09. I wouldn't shoot any of the bucks that I passed including 2 3.5 year olds that just didn't do it for me after all, other than some doe management, I hunt for me, in 09, I'm happy with eating my buck tag. :s2:

GMMAT 01-02-2010 09:10 AM

I wish I'd been able to tag a shooter buck, before the rut kicked in.

I'm apparently not very good at this!

Give yourself some time already!!! You can't judge how good of a hunter your going to be In the 4 or 5 years you've been bow hunting. Give yourself a chance and an oppertunity.

As for as regrets for myself? Not sure. I don't know If I hit my buck that I wounded In the softer part of the shoulder blade or In the big part of the shoulder blade. If It was the softer part I sure regret using the big broadheads I used earlier this year. Other then that I think I did everything damn near perfect In trying to get my buck, 5 encounters on the same buck tells me I was doing something right.

MeanV2 01-02-2010 10:58 AM

The only regret here is I should have passed my 2nd Whitetail Buck that scored 130.

Killing 3 Bucks that score 140, 130, & 141 it's hard to feel bad though. I'd still like to do better, but.......................................

I'm very Thankful for the Season I had!:happy0001:

My only regret is that I should of scouted better.. I did find a couple of nice spot for next years season any ways..

teedub31 01-02-2010 12:21 PM

I shot at a small1.5yr old 5pt and missed high. Re-checked pins and was shooting high. Fixed that, but the miss was not what I regretted. It took me years to get the patience to not shoot the first buck I saw, while I was gun hunting. It is paying off as we (hunting group) are seeing older, better scoring deer with regularity. What I regretted was taking a shot at an animal that I have always let walk for the past 6 years, and telling myself it was okay because I was using a bow.

FLBandit 01-02-2010 12:44 PM

I would have liked to have gotten a deer during Bow Season, but I walked into the woods with a new bow and no clue! As I look back at it now, I've learned a ton. It's funny to me now, but I started hunting after scouting for not even a full day! I still have two more chances for a deer as Gun Season is still open. Even if I don't get one this year I consider it a successful season. I've learned a lot, met some good people, covered a lot of ground in the local WMA, and totally got hooked! :)

wis_rifle_hunter 01-02-2010 03:26 PM

not going out on days i could've. and miss judging a yardage that costed me a 140 class deer.

bowfly 01-02-2010 04:28 PM

no regrets at all...had a double drop tine 12 in PA come in to 30 yards straight on, i was at full draw and it hit me, "i will not shoot this deer because of the angle"

he backed out of the spot he was in, never turning, i just stood there and watched

so, i guess my regret...no camera to "shoot" him

twildasin 01-02-2010 05:27 PM

Only regrets I got was to not hunt harder but right now getting the wife thru nursing school is more important

jlsherr 01-02-2010 09:40 PM

My only regret is letting a 350 Lb hog walk. I came to full draw and put the pin on him only to slowly release and let him walk. In hopes A good buck would show. One did not and I got a ton of crap telling the story later. I will not make that mistake next time.

mauser06 01-02-2010 09:45 PM

hmmm...not planning to be home to hunt in the fall since last March was a mistake as i got laid off early and was home a day or 2 prior to the opener and had the entire season to hunt as hard as i wanted....

that meant no scouting...no new land...didnt take my bow to shoot...

got home and got the bow out and got shooting...luckily all went well...i was in the stand the 2nd saturday or so of the season...

i killed the first deer i seen...most might consider that a mistake....not me...hes my 2nd bow kill and nicest buck so far...no way i was passing him...noone else killed a buck at camp this year and we only got 3 at home in rifle and bow season...buck numbers were down this year at home...so no regrets other than planning on not being home and not being prepared...
