My beautiful archery coyote.

My first archery coyote. He's a beauty too. :happy0157:

Got him while I was standing on the ground, hiding in some cedar saplings. I was wearing a shaggie and blaze orange. He came by quickly, giving me a 17 yard shot.

Smoked him... and I was feeling a bit of bigheadedness until about 1.5 hours later a coyote that actually had fur came by and gave me a 12 yard, standing still shot and I shot over it's back. (I suck :s14:)

Maybe he's actually a 'possum and coyote cross. Look at that tail. ;)

He was actually very heavy. (those scabs must weigh a lot) Mostly, he was a crusty, scabby, stinky mess.
His teeth were all worn down too. Either he had bad dental hygiene or he was an old dog.

my7pointmonster 12-16-2009 11:26 AM

That may be the most mangy coyote I've seen in a while, he sure is a good one though. Congrats!! I'm guessing you were calling them?

Ryan.

bowfly 12-16-2009 11:39 AM

great shot...man is he scruffy :)

HNI_Christine 12-16-2009 11:49 AM

Thanks. I have his head on my stove right now. I'll post a picture when it's done. (I'm cleaning his skull, not making soup) ;)

Actually, I was deer hunting but I saw only the 'yotes. I did hear two deer come in by where the coyote died. They were stomping at it.

I'd love to try calling some in.

MeanV2 12-16-2009 12:36 PM

Congrats Christine! Yotes are tough with a Bow!

Dan

GregH 12-16-2009 12:50 PM

I can't believe it!

That thing is even uglier than the one I shot a couple years ago!
Mine had mange also, but still had somewhat of a tail. It looked so bad that I left it where it was.

Congrats................I think. :)

Nice shot.

Canuck33 12-17-2009 04:45 AM

You better wash good he has the mange and you can catch it from him

burniegoeasily 12-17-2009 04:47 AM

Nice shooten.

Wheatley 12-17-2009 06:17 AM

That is nasty, I don't know if I would have touched that one.

HNI_Christine 12-17-2009 08:50 AM

Thanks,
I wore gloves whilst handling it. I also washed everything off after it came in contact with any of the fur/scabs.

I used to do a lot of trapping, and then I took parasitology in college. Mange is actually one of the less scary parasites when it comes to transmission to humans.

Still looks and smells pretty awful tho'.

IOWABUCKHUNTR 12-17-2009 08:52 AM

That is a zombie coyote right there... Ugly as all get out.

Congrats though

125py 12-18-2009 05:58 AM

thats the ugliest coyote i have ever seen! Think i would have just left it in the woods

HNI_Christine 12-18-2009 05:34 PM

Soup's done!

hmm... what's in there?

..looks tasty!

Mostly finished product. No peroxide yet.

You can see that yote had some serious tooth issues. I'm guessing he was up there in age.

Here's a worn out lower incisor that I didn't glue back in. It was just hanging there in his gums.

:p

Lady Forge 12-19-2009 05:24 AM

UhHHH.... Thanks.... but if you show up today with a tupperware container of soup I'm gonna have to pass on the soup... But Kendal can have my share
I know he's goota smell much better now than he did in person... Jeese just about anything would smell better than that thing did when we were bringing him out.:s11:
He looks Great !!!!

stikbow26 12-19-2009 06:15 AM
