Why? A rain question...

Why is it that most hunters feel that having a rain shower or even steady rain helps to cover our scent, but when using hunting or trailing dogs we know they can get a better smell from deer tracks if the dew is heavy, or even wet from rain?

Just been raining alot here lately and it came to mind.

goose...darn good question...i am interested to see what those with dog experience say to us bowhunters who like having that rain, perhaps a whole new train of thought will kick up

If it's a steady rain or light rain then your scent is constantly being washed away and the deer will not smell it nearly as easy.

If it's just very humid or dew on the ground then your scent is held by the water and is deposited on the ground and the scent gets concentrated and lingers.

I also believe that the rain helps from keeping the wind from drifting you scent decreasing the chances that you will be busted by a deer 50-100 yards away.

This is very true good point. the deer wont pick up your scent do to it always being washed away..... Dogs and so forth can pick up the scent much better because the Noises are said to be stronger then the deers. dogs smell into the ground as too deer smell into the air to pick up on a scent then smell into the ground so there picking up two different scents both are witch normal to them.
