superstition

Do you have some sort of ritual before or after a hunt for good luck ? Or use good luck charms ?

I put my bare hand to the ground, close my eyes and show my gratitude to mother nature and say thank you, when I have had a succesful hunt. This does not mean I need to have had a kill, a good sighting is just as good.
I all so do this when I have a spot of good luck....

I turn my boxers inside out, put my hat on backwards, drink a pint of deer blood and scream "Holy Mother Mary Forgive Me for I know not what I do" just before I go tearing down threw the woods in a full sprint with a knife in my mouth and my bow on back!!!!

My oldest son wants me to say 'bad luck' to you instead of good luck. It started in the 2006 season when I had told him good luck in the morning and he missed a deer. Going out that afternoon, I said good luck again, he laughed and said that did not help this morning, so I told him have bad luck then. He killed his first deer that evening and gets upset now if anyone tells him good luck and insists we tell him bad luck.

For whatever reason but if I see a rabbit while driving to my spot, I always seem to at least see deer, so I am always "rabbit hunting" on the way to my stand.

I always bring an apple w/ me to the stand. when im done eating it, I rub the core up and down on the tree im in. technically i think it might be considered baiting, even though its too high for the deer to actually lick. anyway it works like charm;)

I clean an use furniture polish on my deer mounts right before the season starts every year. Seems to work for me.

I hunt with a guy that listens to Fred Bear by the Nuge ever time he heads out. If nothing else its a kick ass song.

I won't go out if I don't take my morning crap

Redskin_Archer 12-10-2009 05:41 AM

Illini- i listen to that same song most of the time on my way to hunt. But I hate to hear it when i am on my way home with nothing after an all day hunt.

I don't do really anything, i'm not really superstitious. I still tell people good luck.

MISwampDog 12-10-2009 06:45 AM

I always wear the same hat bowhunting. If i don't have my hat i won't get a deer. before every opening day of gun season i load the magazine in my rifle and rack every shell in and out.

PA Bow/Flinter 12-10-2009 06:53 AM

It's not really a superstition, but I joke to myself about it. I usually wear two pairs of socks (wicking and wool). This offers a couple combination of which socks go on which foot. I never pay attention to what sock I put on what foot, but if I don't see anything I tell myself I must have put my socks on the wrong feet and if I get something I must have put them on right. If I see something but don't get anything I must have had one pair on right, but the other pair on wrong. I don't consider it a superstition because I don't pay attention when I put them on and take them off, I just joke about it after the fact.

The Rev has a ice chest that is bad luck! Been many miles and never has anything other than dirty close come home in it.:confused0024:

i thought about this after posting early, it just dawned on me, but i always tend to see a bear during archery season, it is always after i see the bear, not the same day, but later in the season i take a deer

I was an ice hockey goalie for a long time, and I always put my left pad on first, the one time I didn't I tore my mcl my miniscus and my aductor in my right knee.... So I always put my left boot on first now. I'd rather be safe. Lol. I'm an idiot I know.

Ryan.

Before every season I go to walmart and buy a new hat and a new hunting DVD. I watch the DVD throughout the week before season opener, and I wear that same hat, every single time I hunt the whole year.
