If you have the original slide that came with the rest it may be eating your cables. NAP redesigned the slide (different material) because of this, and binding on the cable guard. I had some of the first ones, and they were replaced by NAP. No more problems.
Also, make sure the lifting cable isn' t set too short. This will cause the cables to bind.
