Shot selection poll - please post - pictures

Here's the game - 4 pictures, 4 potential shots. Lets assume its the last day of the hunt, and this is it, this shot or nothing. Will you take the shot ? Please answer with a yes or no and if you shoot a compound, recurve, crossbow or longbow.

I'll add this too - shot is 20 yards...

Except for by the looks of the antlers it is the wrong time of the year and I would go to jail for poaching in Michigan. This is with a compound bow shooting 235 fps.

With my muzzle loader these would be 4 very dead deer out to 100 yards!

To clarify my responses in a previous post about this subject, I was assuming the shot described was of picture #3. And with my bow that just ain't a good shot to me. Now if I had a BK2 with a 500 grn arrow I might try it if I was close.

Number two is the only shot I have full confidence in, so it is the only one I would take.

The only one I would shoot is #2.
I have taken a deer as pictured in #4.15 yards off the ground. The buck was making a scrape and I shot him as lifted his head to lick a branch. He never took another step.

I shoot a compound.

I won't take a shot on the last day that I wouldn't take the first.

02,

I agree that no. 3 gets better with elevation, still not great but better and I would take the shot at close range.

But no. 1 ? At twenty feet up I see nothing but shoulder blade. If miss the shoulder and am real lucky I may clip the rear of a lung, otherwise I am in the gut.

My only two losses where on shots like this early in my bow hunting career and I will never take an angling towards shot again.

Is there a reasonable window that I do not see?
Please explain.

No/Yes/No/No. I shoot a compound bow. As an earlier reply stated, the day iof the season does not matter. My shot selection criteria remain the same from opener to closing day.

wolfen I would like to know how you justify the first one? Are you shooting a 150 pound compound with the heaviest broadheads made?

RE: Shot selection poll - please post - pictures

Tazzer...what's up my friend! Well, in justifying that first one, I will answer by saying that the buck I killed last year was just about at that angle when I arrowed him. He was probably a bit more broadside than pic #1 though, but not much. I put the arrow just to the left of the upper section of the front leg. The arrow entered the chest cavity where it stopped upon hitting the ribs on the opposite side. It took out the right lung and then when the buck bolted the arrow punctured the left lung about 6-7 times. He went about 60 yards before piling up. I agree it is not the best shot in the world and I would do all I could to wait for a better shot but if I was reasonably certain one would not present itself, I am comfortable enough with this shot (I guess if he were just a bit more broadside)to take it. Does it matter that this is a monster buck within bow range??? I will be very honest with you and say YES. I've never cheated on my wife but that's not to say that if Brittney Spears was laying naked in the middle of a winter wheat field I wouldn't jump her bones!!! Kinda like an opportunity like this one...you want to remain ethical and do the absolutely best and right thing but let's face it, we're human and we're weak and that is a MONSTER once-in-a-lifetime buck!!! Mind you, I've not wounded any deer for the past 7 seasons so I'm really not that careless, I'm only being honest. Now Taz, of course if I were a gun hunter, this buck would never have gotten this close because he would be laying dead 100 yards away.

I won't say I wouldn't take the shots but 1, 3, and 4 are all going to turn. One has a tangle behind him and the other two a fence. Besides, you'll probably never get to draw as they stand now. I'd wait a little longer on those 3. Number two looks like a decoy. But, I might as well shoot him.
