If someone interferes with my personal property, or family member, I report it. You actually believe this is a compariable example? |

Even if he simply reported the gun shot and the approximate time of the shot, and the direction where he heard the gun shot from, some investigation could be done and depending on if anything was found, could depend on the out come of the whole thing. Nothing found, no harm no foul, something such as a gut pile found, then more investigation could be done..
I agree, I think the poster knows more than was posted. i remember when the southern md guy killed the 33point a few years ago here. One poster on here said, "it was poached". You know what his reason was when pressed on why he thought that? He said it had to be, no buck like that is coming out in the day. Yea, this is the type of people we are dealing with. |

This is why the world is so warped. People have thier priorities mixed up.

You and your friend sound young, so hopefully he will grow out of it. I've shined alot of deer at night, but just don't understand why someone would want to shoot them? It's not a challenge at all.... |

I agree with BC, this is not a viable comparison at all:eek2:

I've shined alot of deer at night, but just don't understand why someone would want to shoot them? It's not a challenge at all.... I agree, its apples to oranges. His illegally hurting the rest of our chances at legally taking a big buck in no way compares to that. And before you'd throw a friend or simple acquaintance under the bus, even for a serious crime like poaching deer, think about how it will impact their life, their families life and your relationship with all of them. Then ask yourself, can I do something, perhaps sit down and talk to him about why this is not acceptable? In some circumstances, maybe most, it won't do any good. But in a few it might and maybe he'll feel guilty enough to never do it again and you know you helped set him on the right course. In other cases, a call to law enforcement would be in order, after you did what you could do. I consider this to be more of an apples to apples comparison. Suppose your friend was doing drugs, or constantly binge drinking and driving around town impaired every Friday and Saturday night, which are both also illegal, and it was affecting him, his family and your friendship. Would you call the cops immediately, or would you talk to him and try to get him help? The call to the cops may eventually be in order if its what's needed to put an end to the chaos, but wouldn't you rather see if you could get the guy some help first? |
Probably the wrong post for this type of forum, not going to find much sympathy here with these guys if you are just going to sit idley by why not even throwing a feeler out to the game warden. If it is speculation then I can see where you might be hesitant, if not, then like a few others said an anonymous phone call wouldn't hurt..........:nonono2:

[QUOTEWell, I am not a detective or pshychiatrist, but I agree in reporting the shot. DNR ain't going to do jack, but report away. I think jealousy has a lot to do with it.
][/QUOTE] That may depend on if they're possibly already working to build a case on someone in that same area. It often takes several reports to build a case against a criminal. One report, you're right, won't do much. But several reports will get the ball rolling. |
I am just wondering if too many of you guys have done much work with the DNR. They are usually so understaffed, you can't get them to do anything. I mean see these posts over and over about reporting this or that. I seen neighbors doing wrong, reported it several times to DNR. They came out one morning and even told me, they didn't expect to catch them in the act, and nothing happened of course. And when I called them back, they said they were too busy and unless I have solid evidence, nothing they could do.
I then found out how thin the DNR was at least in MD, Ky and WV where I hunt. Ever since that experience, I just don't expect much. |
I think that's totally wrong you should turn the person or persons in! I would not care who it is, to me that's just like hunting in a cage or fense. We as sportsman and woman need to keep the tradition right and teach our junior hunters the same.

But I might think your a poacher. Are you? Should I turn you in? Make sure the DNR has thier sights on you in case you get out of line? I mean all taxi's are poachers I hear.
If you do not have proof, then your doing wrong. More is at stake than a deer. Some people's lively hood. All could be because of nothing. |

I think you are missing the context of the origional post as there is a little more to this guys knowledge of the inccident than he is leading us to believe but i think most people already called him out on what some of the true facts of the situation are. just look the guy hasn't even commented on his thread once yet trying to explain anything. There is obviosly a little more to it and I think you know that. The guy said I know of a deer that was poached not I think a deer may have been poached last night what should I do...... "You think I'm a poacher, all taxis are poachers" is a steriotype and has no relation to what this guy heard and knows about. If you heard me fire a small caliber rifle in the middle of the night and then i had a big buck the next day would you think I poached, yes. I don't know how you can justify not reporting something that you are sure of happened....... Obviously being suspiscious of it all the time and reporting it is not good no but I seriously doubt reporting what this guy knows is going to ruin his livelyhood unless he is guilty. I mean a warden going to someones house for questioning??? how is that going to ruin someones lively hood....... You know how most poachers are caught??? From someone in a bar saying a little to much and there is no proof in that its just hear say but when it gets reported thats when investigation happens and poachers get caught...... If this guy don't want to report what he knows then so be it, he knows he aint any better then the poacher who did it. To post it on here in this context it just dumb. WCL
All I am saying is, unless someone has proof, it silly. I mean I have sneekin suspicions that some folks on here has posted a buck they killed with a gun on the bowhunting contest. But hey, I don't have proof. does the guy know more? I don't have a clue. I think some has watched too many law and order episodes. I can only go what he said. |
