How many tags: Poll

Well I just saw a post where a few guys said they where "Shooting does".... This got me wondering. How many tags, buck and or doe do you get in your state? I am upset that for NY you have to spend $280 for a supersportsman license but only get 2 bow tags and 1 rifle/shotgun tag. Well, actually I only get one bow tag and 1 rifle/shotgun tag because I am a junior. I think in some states you can actually buy seperate bow tags... Is this true?

What do you guys get for tags... This applies for both shotgun and rifle.

craitchky 11-02-2009 01:54 PM

Here in IL, doe tags are unlimited. 15 bucks I think, can't remember.

jnrbronc 11-02-2009 01:55 PM

Some of our counties have doe quotas and you can keep buying them until the quota is met. I hunt two counties; one had 1,300 antlerless licenses, the other 2,000.

Iowa's antlerless quota by county:

chevymanar 11-02-2009 02:00 PM

4 deer here in zone 12 of Arkansas. Max of 2 bucks (3pt rule), but can kill 4 doe.

rybohunter 11-02-2009 02:03 PM

Our doe tags go by allocations for each zone. Most you can get 1 maybe 2 tags for a zone. Others are unlimited until the quota sells out.
1 buck tag no matter what.
Weapon used doesn't matter either.

bigwhitetailbuck 11-02-2009 02:35 PM

Wow... You guys are lucky... I could have taken a bunch of does already, but am waiting for a buck. If I had more then one bow tag, I would have taken one. But no.... damn New York laws.

TNGal 11-02-2009 02:44 PM

Tennesse you are allowed 3 does per day, and 3 bucks for the year that is for unit L

ManofTheFall 11-02-2009 02:44 PM

You can shoot up to 5 doe in Ohio and one buck if you live un the right zone.

bigwhitetailbuck 11-02-2009 02:57 PM

3 does per day!! Damn

bigwhitetailbuck 11-02-2009 02:58 PM

To be honest, I actually kinda like the New York law of only 1. This way, people on propertys around mine will not be shooting as many does as they want and killing the population. But I think they should still up it to 2 or 3 for bow then another 2 for gun

MrGuitar 11-02-2009 03:25 PM

I'm in illinois and I carry an antlerless tag and an either sex tag. It would be awesome to have alot of tags like so many of the people on here but I dont have nearly enough freezer space for that haha.

bigtim6656 11-02-2009 03:36 PM

I voted unlimited but it is not. Though close. We get 2 early archary tags one guntag for buck only one muzzleloader for a buck or doe. Then late archary is one or two more tags. You can take one buck a year here. So up o 6 normal tags i think. Then we have bonus anterless tags each county has alimit sullivan county is a 3 limit county some have 8 tags as the limit. Someone once told me if you tagged out of the bonus tags in every county you could kill like 395 does. Who could kill that many deer heck your talking 4 or 5 deer a day for the entire season. Not going to happen.

krub6b 11-02-2009 04:01 PM

Unlimited antlerless here in Missouri and two anydeer tags with a Bow, then there is one anydeer and one or two antlerless tags, depending on county, for firearms season. Four point antler restrictions apply for the anydeer tags.

Yeah! You've gotta love it!

I'll be in Hardeman County Thursday evening to kick off a four day hunt.

For those of you who aren't from TN, that 3 doe per day limit is the bag limit with a sportsmans license (or a type 094 permit). No additional tags required. To be honest, I'm not in a hurry to "triple" though. That's a lot of work after the fact.

JoshKeller 11-02-2009 04:22 PM

In WV, you can buy 3 bow tags, 2 can, but dont have to be bucks. you can buy 2 rifle buck tags, 4 doe tags, 2 muzzleloader either sex tags.

But we have a 3 buck combined limit a year.

BigDaddy12t 11-02-2009 04:31 PM

Here in Minnesota, there are 3 different areas. My area, once you harvest 1 deer, you are done. And yes, that is 1 deer for bow, gun, and ML combined. Then there is the managed areas, where you can shoot 1 buck or doe with your regular license, and then you can buy 1 doe tag besides that. Then the last are, is 1 doe or buck with your regular license, and then you can buy up to 4 doe tags after that.

Ouch. That really blows. I am lucky I dont have to deal with that. I would freak out

Oklahoma allows 6 deer with no more than 2 bucks. There is also a special holiday anterless season that allows 1 doe that does not count against your season bag limit.

1shotkill1993 11-02-2009 06:07 PM

In my area of Virginia (east of blue ridge) we get 6 deer tags. 3 either sex tags, and 3 doe tags. If you own a farm, you can get special permits for close to unlimited doe tags.

shott8283 11-02-2009 08:02 PM

1 buck regular season (shotgun)
1 either sex bow/muzzle loader

1 anterless bow
2 DMP doe tags can be filled bow or shotgun

then i have tags signed over from family members.. but i usually dont tag out myself

sconnyhunter 11-02-2009 08:15 PM

Wisconsin, in the last couple years has been changing the limit, some years its one buck with each weapon bow\ml\regular firearm. This year its one buck plus as many doe tags as you want to buy (unit specific, until they sell out-not likely). Other years its shoot a doe before you can shoot a buck, we also have a dec. doe only season and ocasionally a oct. doe season.
Here, it seems to be mostly political and always completely confusing.

As to Minnesota, I grew up there hunting in Zone 1 South of Grand Rapids (HIll City). For quite a few years, we had to apply for either sex tags, other wise it was one buck only for the season no matter what the weapon.

Fieldmouse 11-02-2009 09:00 PM

In Md, I can get 6 bucks and unlimited does. The bucks are spread across the bow, muzzle loader and gun seasons and actually the does are limited during the two gun seasons if that really matters. I don't remember what the actual limits are during those seasons because I've shot 10+/- a few years and got sick of dealing with the kills.

fingerz42 11-03-2009 03:27 AM

PA--1 buck per license year. No matter what weapon. SUCKS.

marshall9779 11-03-2009 04:34 AM

I can shoot unlimted antlerless in my county in MD. I can shoot 2 bucks per season, but I would have to buy a bonus antler tag to shoot the second per season. I also would have to shoot two does per season before I can shoot the second antlered deer.

Ditto - and with a farm you get bonus crop damage tags... You can basically shoot one every day... :party0005:

In MD's regs, it says no limit on number of deer that can be taken in one day. Crop damage may be different, I don't know.

IL-Cornfed 11-03-2009 06:53 AM

As mentioned, Antlerless-ONLY tags are unlimited here in IL. However, there is a TWO BUCK limit, regardless of weapon choice of combination of.

Bow tags are over-the-counter and unlimited. They are sold in pairs for $26

Thats the way they did it in Va a number of years back. In Md it's wide open with a basic license. There is no shortage of deer here either. I'v seen over 60 deer in my first two hunts this week.
