unreal! |
I would say 3.5 or 4.5 judging by the belly and the back.

A big FAT one!
I'll say 2.5 years old. Hard for me to say though, I'm only good at judging deer from my area.
I guess it could be a doe too, so judging by the body, and I am certainly no expert nor do I claim to be even a novice. I do a lot of deer watching and logging different ones in my book each year. That one looks a little more mature than 2 and a half to me, and the only reason I say this is.....just because it does, lol. The body and the face look mature enough to be 3 and a half or even upwards of that. I could be totally wrong though. My question to you is, "Do you know that deer, and if so, how old is he/she?" Thanks!!

I have no guess, but the whole age thing is very interesting to me. Yep, most of us want to kill a mature buck, but IMO most of us (myself included) can't tell one way or the other by looking. Even leading deer experts say that it is an "educated guess" at best and that in pen-raised deer situations they have had 1.5 year old deer look almost exactly like a 3.5 year old deer and between 2.5 and 5.5 it's even closer.
Aging by tooth wear is better, but still not close to exact. When I took my 2007 buck to the taxidermist he told me 5.5 after removing the jaw. Took that jaw to a DNR biologist and he told me 3.5 so I figured the taxidermist was not all that good at aging by tooth wear. The next year he aged my buck at 3.5 and the DRN guys agreed. Point being, hard to determine. Good luck. Oh, and...if they were both 3.5...the 2007 buck "Looked" older than the 2008 buck. |
My guess was 3 1/2.. The rack prolly only goes 90 to 100 inches. Its an 8 point
i have seen some jaw and teeth things at the store to help!!!help!! age a deer..and mostly looks like teeth ware like mentioned befor...it also depends on the deers diet..if its eatin corn all the time the teeth will ware faster than if it were softer foods.:party0005:

2.5 years old id say...doesnt look very old...id like to see the bone on this head tho
Short body and clean tarsals...I say 2 1/2. Just my opinion though.
2.5, Belly and back dont have much sag to it like an older deer. Deers face is short and body is around the size of a 2.5
I say 2 1/2. For a Wisc. deer he looks to small to be 3 1/2. Also, his face is a dead give away.

Here's another pic of him
I'd say 3.5... they can be a bit misleading right now though because they are putting on that extra weight for winter.. still the belly and thickness suggests 3.5...
still possible hes a beefed up 2.5 tho.. |
2.5 just looking hard to judge when you are use to seeing deer down South.
i would say 2 1/2. no explaination just thinking.
id say 2 1/2 looks like the belly is still tight but he is filled out well in his front section. his neck matches his body but its not real big and it looks like he has his winter coat on but again just a guess.
Could it be an older deer...possibly on the way down from his prime?
Id have to say he is a 2.5
