Default 2nd shift bowhunting

Hello, I just want to know if anybody hunts while working 2nd shift? This is what I have to do this year. In the past I was lucky to be on 1st shift. On 1st I could come home at 3:30 and be in the stand by 4:00 ( I live very close to my huntin land)
Now my questions is.....
Do any of you get up in the morrning and go hunt before work?
If so, do you nood off on the stand?
Are you real tired at work?
My plan is to start huntin in the morrnings, and then come home at around noon and get a little more rest before work.
The upside is that I will have the land to my self.
Thanks for any input.................

What is the starting and stoping time of your shift? When I worked seconds I loved it. I worked a 2-10. Got home and slept about 6 hours and could hunt till about noon. When you start getting tired take a day off. Think of it this way.... everyone is hunting after 3pm. Not too many guys in the woods in the morning.

I have done it before when I worked 3-11pm. You can hunt from sunup to 11am or so, then catch a nap before work if you need. That will give you almost 5 solid hunting hours in the morning.

I feel your pain as I am a police officer and work all kinds of shifts. I guess its good having a LT and Chief that deer hunt alot to so they understand from Oct on. Our shifts here are 7-3, 3-11, and 11-7. I worked all last season from 11pm to 7am and gone hunting both morning and evening! We are not like drug addicts and have to work to support our habit! good luck

I work rotating shifts also.5amto1pm, 1pmto 9pm and 9pmto5am, I hunt after all of them, working steady 2nd shift I would hunt a couple days then sleep in a day or how ever you need too.

I worked 2nd shift (3 to 11) for 9 years. It was tough but I hunted almost everyday. The third day was rough to get up and go but I didn't fall asleep in the stand. I would get off and get to sleep around 1am, get up at 4:30am and come and take a nap around 1pm. It was rough for the two months of bow season but oh well it is only two months! I loved hunting the mornings and I still do but I would not go back to 2nd shift though. I took some great bucks during those time. Actually my biggest buck! It is tough but it is rewarding because 90% of the time you have the woods to yourself!

I worked 2nd Shift for 10 years ('95 to '05) and had a very respectable amount of success. In fact, it was my most successful bowhunting period ever! I used to get in all kinds of morning hunts, sure I'd get tired but having the woods to myself and on weekdays was a big advantage, IMO.

Good luck and good huntin'

I work 2-10:30, and hunt mornings. I never feel tired in the stand. Depends on the work you do I guess. The biggest problem I have is if I would shoot a deer, do I have time to track , tag and get it to a processor..I couldnt do it everyday. 2 maybe 3 time a week. Thats why I have vacation LOL.. Good luck

I work third shift and I hunt both morning and evening. When I go in the morning I get off early. Usually at 5:00am. I am usually in my stand by 6:15. I will hunt until about 9:30 unless it is prime time. Then I stay in the stand until about 11. I go home, sleep until 3, then I'm back in the stand around 4 or 4:15. Needless to say in bow season until I am tagged out sleeping time is limited. I've been doing this for 7 years now.
