city deer hunting?
 

are the deer in the city bigger ? harder to hunt? if you hunt in the city post some pics

ive hunted expanded archery this year in maine the deer seem the same as in country but in smaller woods and more leary of people i think cause they see more i got an 8 pointer went 208 pics posted in maine bowhunting thread

I don't hunt in the city but I've heard some talk of a nice buck just outside of Lansing here in Mid Michigan. If he's where they say he is then you can't get much more in the city (surrounded by sub divisions and about a 1/4 away from the mall). Here's the alleged picture. He's on the left.

Suburban Hunting

This is my first year hunting in the suburbs of DC (Buke, VA). The deer are the same size and difficulty as the surrounding country deer - as far as I can tell. I hunt with:

They are a quality orginization with tons of property that needs hunting. Property access is no problem after becoming a member. Hunting is available year-round.

I hunt regularly in the suburbs of green bay. I wouldnt say that the deer are bigger but they have more of a chance to grow bigger and put age on due to the fact that less people hunt around there, they can hide on wood lots that no one even hunts or there is not hunting allowed. Depending on the area and the pressure they get it depends on how wary they are. But it is def worth hunting around cities and has its advantages but the woods are smaller and harder to hunt.

I have noticed that suburban deer do not have to move around much - they can feed and bed down all within 50 yards or so. Can be frustrating when you don't see anything and you know deer are in the area.

Also, take one step in a patch of woods that these deer are not used to seeing people in, and they become just as wary if not more than your typical woods deer. (ie scram!)

On the other hand, if there are lots of deer and not much hunting, it's like hunting on a tv show! Deer everywhere!

It's a little weird being in the stand, and having a neighbor dog come sniffing by. Or what annoys me is having a neighbor decide to start mowing their lawn with 1/2 hour of daylight left... Suburban hunting...

For four years, I had permission to hunt in suburban Ann Arbor, MI. It was the best bowhunting I ever had. I saw nice bucks every year, far nicer than anywhere that there was real hunting pressure. Over those four years I harvested a very nice 10-pointer, a nice 8-pointer, a 6, two 4s, and a spike. And a fistful of does to boot. One day I shot 4 deer in less than an hour.

I also screwed the pooch on two of the nicest bucks I ever drew an arrow on due to range misestimation. I think one was a 12 and one a 14.

The real problem was recovery. I had to be VERY selective about my shots, I passed on many where I felt the deer would flee in the direction of houses. I could only shoot if I felt they'd flee toward an undeveloped area. Honestly it was quite stressful and when the property owner moved I was not entirely sorry to lose the spot. I was sure it was only a matter of time before some liberal animal lover tried to bring in some heat on me even though I was fully legal. Or that a deer would run where I did not expect it and die in someone's yard.

I did some hunting in the burbs a few years back. The deer are the same size, but I don't think they are as timid since they are more used to seeing people and hearing cars more often than deer in the country so to speak...

ive never hunted in urban deer, but ive seen some monsters crossin some railroad tracks in/near major city where i live.
