WV buck down!

First off, I dont really care to hear about the QDMA crap. I hunt for meat, enjoyment, and in this case, helping to fill the landowners freezer. I have no problem with anyone holding out for a trophy, but with limited hunting time, and meat in an 80 year old landowners freezer, I'm happy.

I sat in my stand this afternoon (jefferson county, its legal to sunday hunt here), at approx 3:45. saw 4 does at the pond going in, and figured it would be a decent day, after it had rained the past 4 days.

My stand is 25 feet in the air, overlooking a fence crossing and a creek crossing, in a strip of woods connecting a bedding area and soybeans and corn - a classic setup. The wind was in my face, it was nice and cool. I checked on the score of the footballs games, and looked up to catch a glance at this deer coming to me about 100 yards off. He crossed the creek, and then began to browse on some of the plants I sprayed down with bowhunter setup. It took him 15 minutes to make it the next 50 yards into my shooting lane on the otherside of the fence crossing. He came into the lane, stopped, and the arrow was on its way. 15 yards, pass through, with a rage. The deer never really took off in a burst, so I got to see the entry hole literally spewing blood everywhere. He hurried out of sight, and I sat back down in my stand and made a few phone calls and texts. Came down 30 minutes later, and followed a HEAVY blood trail to my buck, about 75 yards away.

The blood trail at impact.

The blood trail 10 feet from the deer.

And the buck.

Hey Josh, good deal man. Beat my saturday full of does, wind and white flags. I did see horning, and actually my headlights lit up a nice 8pt at 6am laying with does in someone's "yard". Sure thought about it, but figured wouldn't be a good story to tell :-)... So, funny, saw the horning and he was laying with does this early.

Gotta love what the Rage does to these deer! Although I have certain personal antler restrictions, I am also a firm believer in the "Be Proud of What You Shoot" mentality, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
