air travel with archery equip
I am headed for Iowa in Nov. United Air told me my bow case will be oversized and cost $125 each way. Has anyone else had problems?

I've flown to Alberta several times with Air Canada and never had that problem with my bow. I even have the SKB rectangle case which is big. These friggen airlines are out of control!!:s8:

You can ship it to the outfitter by fedex, ups or post office. Just a rambling thought.

Delta was a bit cheaper, but I'd recommend shipping UPS and insuring your case. I personally like the tracking ability and ensuring my bow was received before I get on the plane. If it doesnt get there, then pack up a back up bow. The cost is all part of ensuring a great trip when you get to your destination. Enjoy your hunt.

check United regulations, I've flown on them 3 times in the past years, last one was 2 years ago, bow case always went as free checked luggage as long as it was under 50 lbs.
check the luggage rules on their web site, things like golf bags, bow cases etc are often excepted from the size limits. |
I agree with Bob H, When I flew to/from quebec last fall, our bows were under 50# so they were free as our 2nd piece of luggage. Make sure to PRINT off the luggage info from the airline you are flying. They tried to charge me for my bow case at the airport, but I had the papers right with me.
